2020MY Ranger 4.2" APIM in 2018 F150 8" Screen

Bricked my F150 APIM after incorrectly assuming it was an not a 2020MY unit. It was replaced with a 2022 unit prior to purchase and i utilized the reformat manual method. Purchased a 2020MY 3.4 APIM from a Ranger and was going to change the AB data in Forscan. Well, turns out it was a 4.2" APIM and not an 8" unit. Seeing that this is also a 2020MY unit, is there any way to upload the latest sync 3.4 for 8" screens? The sticker says the model number is LB3T-14G370-NLF but the AB data says otherwise.

Not such a thing, APIMs are not 4 or 8 inches… Screens are though…

Yes, use Syn3updater to install the 8 inch variant. Make sure MY20 protection is active, only Autoinstall can be ran against the unit.

14G370 is the screen+APIM combo, 14G371 is the APIM itself.
AB does not say anything, AB is just configuration values.

Thanks for the confirmation. I created the USB using the uodater tool with Autoinstall and MY2020 protection on. Plugging in the USB to the radio and the install isnt initiating. What can i do to remedy this?

Is the USB port operational?. If so, share the USB creation’s log from Syn3updater.

USB port is operational. Screen prompts phone detection when i plug in my smartphone and the smartphone prompts to allow data transfer.

Let me put it this way: the interrogator log you sent before, was against THIS unit? (this would confirm the USB is operational for data transfer)

I remember seeing some cases involving this type of device… Do you have another USB to try with?.

If not, try editing the autoinstall.lst file and removing the item1 and open1 sentences from it… then make the reminder of the item and open statements go from 1 to 3 accordingly…

Ill will attempt the update with another USB. And no, nothing happens at all. No prompts show up on the screen.

That’s odd… from the interrogator log, the unit has enough space for an update to start… if after trying with the other USB you keep failing, do the .lst modification thing… and if that also fails, try removing Gracenotes and see if it works (you can create the USB for that via syn3updater)

Looks like your diagnosis on the drive hit its mark. Dug up an old USB from college and the update is taking. Will report back once its done.

New issue unfortunately. Came back to the truck with a black screen. Backup cam works and sound is on from the last radio station. Seek does not work but volume does. Any suggestions?

Ok, time to restore the default asbuilt to the APIM. If you do not have it, you can download it from Ford directly with your VIN. That way ,the unit will be configured as it should for your vehicle (which was 8’’ from the factory, right?. But of course, before doing so, save your current asbuilt just in case.

In fact, can you share a screenshot of the asbuilt seen through Forscan?
I suspect the screen is black due to some theme setting… When shutting the unit down, I assume you also see the boot screen / logo…
