Android Auto not working after updating SYNC 3 from version 1.0 to 3.0

Howdy Folks, recently purhcased a 2016 Lincoln MKX that came with SYNC 3 version 1.0. Downloaded version 3.0.23219 from Lincon’s website in hopes of being able to use Android Auto. Download was successful, however Android Auto still does not work or even register as ever being an option or setting. Using a Galaxy 24+. Have also tried using a friends Galaxy S24 Ultra as well as various IPhone models. It seems to read phones as mass media devises rather than a cell phone when plugged in.

Solutions I’ve tried:
-Soft Reset
-Master Reset
-High Quality/Factory charging Cables
-Reset Phone cache/settings
-Upgrade USB port to part HA1Z-19A387-AC

Other things I’ve noticed:

  • Voice Recognition/controls does not work either. I get an error along the lines of Voice Recognition not ready

Is there a solution to this? Do you think I’d need a new APIM, or is there an easier fix?

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Old SYNC Version: 1.0

Assuming you got a real Ford USB hub

Try doing a downgrade to a 2.2.x buid and then upgrading to 3.0.23219

Yes, the part is OEM. Will try the downgrade and then re-upgrading.

Edit: How do I go about downgrading? Do you have a link to a version w/ nav? The app appears to only show upgrades. Thanks in advance!

The app only works for operations involving 3.3/3.4.

You need to manually install 2.2.17xxx, you can take a look at this post as a reference → 2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #10 by SaNdMaN

3.0.23219 is JR3T-14G381-AY… also try AA while on 2.2.17xxx… You can download the autoinstall.lst files from the site as well now…

Awesome, thanks for the pointer. I read on another forum a user also recommended adding a document DONTINDX.MSA as well. They said you can pull it from the 3.0xx download file already done. Is that necessary or can/should I continue without it?

That file tells the unit not to index the USB, unless you have 1750 files on the USB I do not see that as a requirement.

If you have one at hand, place it there. If not and you have just a few file on the drive, then go ahead, it should be fine.

Thanks fellas, confirming the downgrade worked and Android Auto + Apple CarPlay now work. Will reupdate to 3.0xx when I have the time

Edit: Didn’t try voice command yet, but will let you guys know on that as well later tonight or tomorrow.
