Black Screen After Sync 3 Update

Hi I tried to update my 2016 Ford Mustang from Sync 3.1 to Sync 3.4. We put in the USB and it started with the ford update thing then had the ford label of “installation complete. Remove USB,” so I removed the USB then it just turned black and it is not giving any response except when you start the car the USB like port comes on then after a few minutes it turns off.

Hi.

Share the APIM model. If you ran the interrogator log, share it since it’s there.

If not, read it through forscan or unmount the unit and see what the sticker says.

Do you have a 4" or a 8" screen?

Also, you may have pulled the USB stick too early. If that message to remove it came up within a short time you should ignore it and allow the system to reboot and continue uploading the software. You would then remove the stick after the second message some time later advising the update is complete.

This may not be the case but it may be worth while trying the upload again with this info in mind.

It’s an 8 in, I do not have the apim model. Also yes I’m assuming I pulled the usb out too early but now it seems just frozen. I’m just seeing if anyone else has had this issue and if it’s totally bricked.

Which tells me you didn’t check if it was a MY20 APIM or not.

So, get the APIM model.

If you unmount the unit, take a picture of the sticker and share it with us.

Here is the back of the apim.

Super old G series APIM.

Has the unit or screen ever been serviced?

Remove these lines from the autoinstall and rename the Item2 lines to Item1. Do not remove the USB till you see the GREEN screen after the reformat.
