Changed out the 4" screen on my 2020 Transit for an 8" pulled from a 2018 Ecosport. Installed it and at boot it behaved as expected (4" screen displayed in the corner of the 8" screen). Ran the installer with the latest upgrade and now I’ve got nothing on the screen at all. It will boot with the Ford logo and will display the backup camera when in reverse but that’s it. I ran the interrogator tool - Ford APIM AsBuilt decoder tool Any help would be appreciated.

Once you replaced the screen you should have set the asbuilt for the proper screen size. However, this is still possible. You will need FORScan and a quality OBD adapter. You will need to edit the asbuilt for the new screen as the Syn3 Updater does not change the asbuilt or firmware, only the software.

The APIM asbuilt line to change is:
7D0-03-01 xxxx **xx xxxx
Visual Themes Sync Version 3.4
The value at this address needs to be ‘01’
01=Ford Timeless (Blue Theme, Blue Buttons)

Thanks for the help! I’ve got a ODB adapter (recommended in the FORScan documentation) coming in tomorrow. I’ll update with results.

So I was a little afraid of this but I think the issue runs deeper than just the screen. After the software update I noticed the radio wouldn’t work either. I’m still waiting on the ODB adapter to arrive today. I just tried swapping the 8" screen back out with the 4" one and it has the same crippled functionality as the 8" - only displays the Ford logo at boot and the backup camera, no radio. Would this be another APIM change? If this is only updating the software why wouldn’t putting the old screen back in give me back full functionality?

The radio is probably just turned off in the GUI and you can’t access it. Don’t panic, once you get the adapter make the adjustment above and then master reset the APIM.

Long story short - my As-Built was fine - all I needed to do was an APIM master reset (Power + FF) and everything came up perfectly! Thanks for the help.
