USA takes about 30 minutes, USB or HDD ain't gonna matter, you are limited to 480mbps = 60MB/S USB2.0 theoretical max speed, a fast USB will easily do that, same for a spinning hard drive or a SSD
Just don't use some shitty free USB you got at a expo or conference and you will be fine.
EU takes about 45 minutes.
