I managed to grab a Sync 3 Gen 4 APIM out of a Ford Ranger, and installed it and retrofitted into my sync 1 ford focus. Everything is working fine, however the USB doesn’t, it has lights but it doesn’t charge my phone nor apple carplay works, I tried plugging an USB LED light just to make sure it wasn’t just my phone however, it lights up on my Ford Everest’s USB Port, but not on my Ford Focus. I tried doing interrogator log with USB method, and the apim did absolutely nothing. The USB Port i have is HU5T-14F014-AC, my concern is, is that usb media hub supports gen 4 apim? if yes, is my media hub broken or is it the usb? or the worst case scenario, the APIM itself. * * * **SYNC Region:** ROW **Navigation Variant:** Nav **Manufacturer Year:** Pre MY20 **Install Type:** Retrofit **Old SYNC Version:** 3.4.21994 **New SYNC Version:** 3.4.21994 **Do you have a error message, if so what is it?** None **Update Method:** Official Ford ---

Ok, which port are you plugged into? The other port is for what is basically a USB extension cable for a 2nd port so its an output not an input. Normally for this you’d have used a HC3Z-19A387-G dual port module. ---

I agree with F150Chief on this. The pic of your APIM has several issues that show it’s a counterfit. ---

oh even though they were configurable in forscan? every asbuilt changes i’ve built were inline with the database here so far I can assure you this is original. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I pulled this APIM out of a Ford Ranger Wildtrak from a friend. His ford ranger crashed and decided to do a parts out and sell stuff, which is how i got this APIM. He never replaced the APIM and came with it as stock and Ford Ranger Wildtrak comes with Sync 3 by Default. Apple Carplay was also working before, but he already sold his USB Media hub and USB Cable to someone else. So I had to salvage a USB Hub on a Junkyard and bought a Mini USB to Mini USB Cable on Ebay ---

There’s the problem “bought a Mini USB to Mini USB Cable on Ebay” The Ford cable isn’t a straight simple USB mini cable, it just uses that style connection just like an A2B audio. It’s intended to connect to the media hub, the second port on the hub is a simple mini-USB. ---

can you give me a link where to find a cable? The label i bought on ebay says “Head Unit T-port USB Media Hub Module Harness Adapter Wire for Ford Sync 3” to be more specific, but if you know a reliable source, that’ll be great ---

Okay so i’ve found a Cable lying around with Male Mini-B USB to a Female USB A, and and a dummy USB led light and it lights up, but doesn’t light up on the hub, Now i can confirm that the APIM USB Slot is working, now I only need to test either the cable or the hub itself. I haven’t bought the part yet since i’m watching for junkyards here or people who sell parts out if i could snag a cheap one. But i’ll try to test a USB hub first if I do manage to find one. I’ll update here once again after I did something ---

Okay so i decided to keep my mini usb to mini usb cable first, and I finally dig thru broken ford cars, and grabbed two usb hub for 20 dollars, one of them worked with carplay I only replaced the USB Hub and now the carplay works, thanks everyone!
