Ford Sync3 Update Error: VER_ERR01

Attempting to update Sync3 in my 2018 F-150.

Current Sync3 Version: 2.3.17118 - Non-Nav - 4.3" screen.

Attempting to use CyanLabs due to the official update from Ford not working from USB.

SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 64gb USB.

Ford Update: 2.3.20272

Attempted Ford update found by VIN: reformatted USB to exFAT, downloaded files, unzipped, transferred to USB. Followed all basic instructions after that (turn on, plug in, etc). Screen comes up immediately with Installation Failed: Error code: VER_ERR01 - Download files again and retry installation.

Attempted to use CyanLabs updater, wanting to update just to version 3.3.19052. Followed instructions, downloaded with updater, all appropriate and correct options checked, all should be good.

Turned on truck, plugged in USB - Same error: VER_ERR01.

According to this site, that error is: VER_ERR01 – Error is VER_UNABLE_TO_FIND_VER_FILE

Can anyone help me identify this issue? APIM is stock. Followed the updater configuration properly.

Then why did you set this?

Yup, this is not “out of the box” Syn3 Updater behaviour. reset your install mode in advanced settings and do not mess with advanced settings.

I tried that after having attempted the install in Auto-Detect Mode about 10 other times.

Here is about the log of about the 10th time in Auto-Detect, giving the same error.

Also, just to be clear, the current APIM is stock, and not bricked.

If you have been messing with all sorts of other installs, kill the power to the APIM in whatever way you see fit, then start it back up and insert the USB with whatever files match the log file you just posted.

SYNC is very good at getting stuck after 1 fail until the APIM is power cycled.

What would be the best way of doing that? I’ve used Master Reset, disconnected battery cables, pulled the fuse in the passenger-side compartment, etc. Cannot find any answer about this VER_ERR01 code anywhere online. Plugged in with Forscan now to see if anything shows in there, but it’s showing no error codes for the APIM so far.

Pulling the fuse and cables are good ways to power cycling it. Since you tried master reset, you could just soft reset, but I think you have they covered.

Here’s what I would do:

  • create and run an interrogator log against the unit.
  • use a different USB stick just to rule that out
  • use a different USB port

Could you unmount the unit and check the stickers?.
I’m asking this because usually VER errors under “normal operations” could also mean a dying or counterfeit APIM

Honestly, the dying APIM is what’s got me worried. I’ve actually ordered a Tesla-style 12.1" unit from AutoTechpro to install next week, so I’ll pull the APIM then. The unit I’ve ordered says it retains Sync3, but it also functions without, so I may not even have to worry about anything. If it does require the APIM to function perfectly, I’ll check the stickers and, if nothing else, order a new one once I find one for a decent price.

But I’ll try the interogator with a new USB stick.

If you get an interrogator output, please share it.

Is there any update about your issue?.-
