I am unable to use bluetooth to place calls after upgrading from Sync 1 to Sync 3.4. I can use bluetooth for only music.

I purchased a truck recently and switched the 4 inch screen to a 8 inch Sync 3.4 from the Internet. The seller on Ebay is not too helpful to set this up, which is frustrating. I have two issues I am having after the swap.

#1 am no longer able to use bluetooth for calls to and from my phone. When I place an outgoing call, the radio goes silent, and the the screen shows it calls, but nothing comes out of speakers. It will not even place the call, but the person on the other end shows a missed call.

When I receive a call it also does not allow the call to go through the speakers. I am searching the internet for suggestions for the last few days, before I try to return this radio.

My #2 hope is with the 4 inch screen when you adjust the volume, fan speed, and climate temps, a popup window would show up on the screen showing the setting as you change them. It was a really nice feature to have and my wife’s 2016 Explorer has it. Currently only the volume popup shows on the screen.

Thanks in advance. I am someone that loves to learn and been trying FORscan to adjust a number based on forums, but always falling back on the original profile I saved if anything changes that is unwanted. The only thing I am trying to learn is the APIM setting. Everything else I am not touching.

This is the Sync 1 to Sync 3 harness I used from Amazon. It worked great in my son’s Ford Fusion upgrade also. Amazon.com

Attached is my APIM and ACM values for my 2014 F150 XLT

F150Forum.com, Gen 12 forum has Sync upgrades documented that may help.

Thanks. I will look into that. I was watching a install video tonight to see if their was anything I missed. I learned the sync harness adapter I got appears to not have plug for this small box on top of the dash which I believe is causing my blue tooth issues. Still trying to figure out how to turn on the climate repeater and the fan repeater option in the APIM or ACM.

That is a Sync 2 GPS module. Has absolutly nothing to do with bluetooth or Sync 3. What it does do is effect your IPC compass or Sync 2 screen compass.

That is good to know. That is the only connection I was missing with the harness adapter trying to learn what it is used for before I call it a night. Thank you! I won’t worry about tracking down a new harness, but back to trying to figure out my bluetooth issues.

I do think you have a wiring issue though with the microphone. Now the box underneather the the GPS module that has the USB plug going into is alo a concern. That reminds me of an old Sync 1 module.

Thanks I will look for another good quality harness to install it to try and rule somethings out. That USB connector went to the old SYNC port plugin under the radio, and I left it unhooked since the sync 3 no longer needed it. That connector with the white wire was what I was missing that goes to the GPS box for older SYNC 1 and Sync 2.

There was simply one connection under the tray on the dash that I hooked up.

Just documenting incase anyone else ever comes across this. I was able to use the media button on the steering wheel to tell the radio to switch between bluetooth audio and the radio and it worked great, So I think I can rule it down to be a setting adjustment in FORscan. When I place a call, with a soft reboot, I was ablet to get the radio to switch to call, but I can not get anything from the phone to come from the speakers in the truck. When I listen or speak into the phones I hear nothing. So the audio is going somewhere. I even repaired the phone, and did a master reset.

The SYNC radio can receive calls the the radio goes silent when I accept, but when I place an outgoing call the radio continues to play. I have gone in and even made sure use phone ringtone was selected in the settings menu. When I press the privacy button on the screen audio goes back to both phones and you can talk normally. It simply won’t push the audio from the phone through the speaker like it did before the upgraded radio.

When I press the media button on the steering wheel it doesn’t say “Sync, please say a command, but it accepts the prompts given to it. This has to be something simple I am overlooking. Right?

Thank you. I was not aware of that. My apologies!

I have the same problem with a 2018 Mustang. I changed Sync 1 to Sync 3 and every time I receive calls, the radio activates and the call audio doesn’t play..

Hmmm. Did not know that a 2018 Mustang came with SYNC1. My 2015 Mustang came with SYNC2 MFT.

Probably Sync 2.5 with a 4" screen…?
