My APIM was replaced by Ford in Sept 2025 (2018 Sync 3 car). i want to update to 3.4, I assume thats not an option? Its frustrating that having a newer APIM would limit me to older software!

Odds are it is a 2020+ APIM so I would refrain from formatting it. You can look at Fmods and jailbreak it but we dont support that here.

Its this line on the Cyanlabs website that confused me “You can use Syn3 Updater v2.6+ to update MY20 APIM’s without reformatting.”

I see where the confusion may be, but that’s correct: you can upgrade MY20 APIMs with Syn3updater as long as a reformat is not required (like upgrading to the latest maps for a MY20 EU already running 3.4)… In that specific context, the upgrading is not from 3.0 or earlier, but a more “generic” upgrading…
The manual method is a reformat, so that’s why the warning is there… Thanks for bringing it up…
Double check your APIM’s model… If it’s MY20, you can reformat it with FMODS’ universal reformat package as mentioned before…

just checked my APIM and it shows as HL1T-14G380-CC hardware, and JR3T-14G371-FJG assembly which i believe is pre my20? Software is JR3T-14G381-AY / 3.0 Build 23219.
This is a Ford Service Replacement APIM JR3T-14G371-FJG and it is MY20+ according to the hardware databse.
DO NOT REFORMAT!!!
