i upgraded from sync 3 to 3.4 everything works fine, but i noticed that the modem does not have a serial number. i have a 2017 ford fusion titanium hybrid energi. is this normal or is something wrong. i unplugged the negitive side of the battery for about 2 minutes and this did not fix it. I was just trying to get the ford app to work on my phone. if it is not possible no big deal. just curious.. thanks
The factory TCU in the Energi was a 3G unit which no longer works since AT&T discontinued 3G.
If it hasn’t been replaced under Ford’s CSP, you need to replace it with an H series 4G unit (which is what the Ford update kit used) and add a PIFA antenna, there’s a thread on here from F150Chief with the steps to activate a TCU. Bill32399 has an Energi which had the TCU update performed by a dealer so he has a valid AB config for an Energi.
I just got the car a week ago. Don’t know if it worked before. Just saw the phone app on play store and thought I I would try it. No big deal though not that important
didn’t know about the phone app, until after i did the 3.4 upgrade. i just figured maybe something happened when i upgraded.
1 more question. being that it is probably a 3g unit. would that be why there is no ecn number anymore. did it just disappear after att dropped 3g.
It might just not be showing it becuse there is no 3g service in your area. Some 3G modems are still working near the Canadian border as there is still some 3g service up there.
Either way you need a new modem as it will not work. 4G is the only network supported by Ford in the US now. Ford will upgrade your modem but it will cost you. I had them do mine on my 2020 Fusion plugin back when they did the switch.
This may not be relivent to you but just in case, If your using Forscan than make sure HS4 is turned off on the APIM. I have seen where it looks for the TCU on HS4 if it is turned on. just ignore this if it is not the case.
