SYNC and APIM upgrade Holy Grail

Hey guys. This is my first post here after sporadic lurking for multiple years. I’ve recently become much more intrigued with the upgrade/mod potential of my vehicle and am hoping to get some clarity on exactly what is and isn’t possible to accomplish.

I have a 2019 Fusion Titanium running SYNC 3.4.23188 and have a reasonable amount of experience with Forscan and have used F-MODS for customization as well.
As far as SYNC for my vehicle, what is the end game/ biggest feature set/ most upgraded that’s reasonable to attempt? Specifically, I’m aware that upgrading to SYNC 4 is more trouble than it’s reasonably worth but what’s the next best thing and why? Is it worth upgrading the hardware from what I currently have? Is there anything software or firmware related that gives features I don’t currently have access to?

I know how you can go down a rabbit hole trying to upgrade but I plan on having this car in my lineup for probably ever so an investment that makes for a more enjoyable driving experience is definitely worth it for me. I wish I could list features if like to have but have been reading so much here and in other sites everything is swirling in my brain and well if you know, you know.
Any mod experiences that can be shared as well just common things fine for better functionality would be fantastic. More than happy to provide more info on current hardware or software if needed. Teach me wise people! Thanks

This is a full blown mod not a simple upgrade so getting things to work afterwards if at all is going to be trial and error.

I appreciate your response, truly. I guess what I’m asking is with my vehicle, what mods are even capable in general? It seems that many that replace their APIM are in vehicles a few years older than mine, and have a particular reason for doing so. I’m not trying to mess with things just for the sake of doing it but if there are good features that could be added I want to learn what I’m currently missing out on. If it helps at all:

Need to understand why people replace APIMs etc.

Sync2/MFT - based on WinCE 6.5, no AA or CP went out of production across the US/NA models in 2016.

Sync3.0 - (G series APIM) first rollout 2016 is some models (eg Escape) v1.0 had limited AA & no CP support, to get CP support even on a later built (eg 2.0) requires replacing the USB media hub

2017 Sync3.0 (H series) has a the cars/trucks with this have the updated media hub and v2.x which support AA and CP is a bit flaky, fixed with v2.2 build

2018 Sync3.0 (J series APIMs are bit cleaner hardware/firmware wise) build 2.2, MY2018 across some models has a change, the Fusion MY2018.5 has different modules (Door, FCIM, etc) this is to help support the addition of HS4 in 2019.

2019 Sync 3.2 K series APIMs, new file system internally, same look and feel as Sync 3.0 these can update to 3.4.x when it gets released with the MY2020. Some Ford models get the first X40 Sirius/XM ACMs

2020 - L series APIMs factory at 3.4, most upper trims have X40 ACMs.

The difference between Sync 3.0 build 3.0.23219 & Sync 3.4.23188 is pretty much just a prettier interface, people that have Sync2/MFT can only get AA & CP be doing a Sync3 APIM/screen etc upgrade/mod and with those you can usually get close because the vehicle model was a direct progression (eg update a 2014 Fusion SE with the tech package to Sync3 is a quick hardware swap and using the AsBuilt from a 2017 SE, using the AB from a 2019/2020 SE causes no camera or steering wheel controls due to the logic change).

Sync4 moves Ford to Cloud based service offerings (eg subscription NAV) which you can’t get on a modded vehicle because Ford didn’t put Sync4 in Fusions. So really all you get is a higher definition screen (part of which you lose do to the bezel on the FCIM cutting it off) and wireless AA/CP (both of which you can get with a dongle like a Motorola MA1).

Best mod on a 2019 Fusion in all seriousness if you use Sirius/XM is to go to an X40 ACM (2020 Fusion LS7T part number), it requires a few changes to the AB on the APIM and 2 to 4 wires added to the harness between the APIM and the ACM which in the Fusion are right on top of each other.
