2015 Explorer sync 1 to 3

Hey guys, new to the forum here. I have a 15 explorer with sync 1 and I’m looking to upgrade to sync 3. I’m not looking to spend 2k on the kits, I’m actually trying to keep it as cheap as possible by getting parts from a salvage yard. I understand I won’t have dual climate control and that doesn’t bother me. From all my research, everything plugs right in, but I have to repin my 52 pin connector. Is this right? I don’t care about nav, I’m really just after CarPlay. I have Forscan and have played around with it quite a bit. I work for Tesla and I’m quite handy with this kinda stuff, just not ford specific. I have everything except the apim. Any help is appreciated. TIA

For a 15 Explorer you will need a few things.

APIM
Nav Antenna
New USB hub from any 2017 or newer
USB adapter bezel(eBay)
New FCIM for 8" hole
USB power wire converter(eBay)

I think that is all you need. If you already have the 52 pin connector than it is pretty much plug and play. You can no longer use your APIM AB as it is specific to Sync 2 and many parts will not work right on Sync 3.
