Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find anything on it. I’d like to swap my center climate controls/radio controls with one from a 2017+ MKZ. The touch controls are neat but I’d rather just have buttons/knobs. Has anyone tried doing this?
Its just like doing a 2013-2015 Fusion to get rid of the cap touch buttons.
You would drop the 2017 unit in and them load your vehicles factory AsBuilt into the unit.
If you’re taking apart the console/dash for this its a really good time to do a Sync3 upgrade while you have it taken apart.
Thanks for the answer! I actually have done the sync 3 upgrade I just think the buttons would be so much nicer than the touch controls.
And more reliable. My wife had an MKX with the ‘slider’ controls which were touchy and not reliable, hence Ford/Lincoln changed these back to knobs pretty quickly. Sometimes cool ideas are just that…

Which is funny with the 2013-2020 Fusion, they got rid of the cap touch controls on the overhead with the 2014MY, but didn’t change the FCIM until 2016.
Ford seems to have decided to make very few changes on the MKZ (if it works don’t fix it?) and left them stuck with the G series 3G TCU long after the 2017/2018 Fusion Platinum got the H series 4G TCU. (and yes the Energi owners still got screwed over with getting G series units all the way until production ended in 2020).
Yeah, when I test drove the car I thought they were neat but after having it for a few months I am definitely tired of it and want the knobs/buttons…lol. I’ll find one from a 2017+ MKZ on eBay or a junkyard and throw it in.
I actually just swapped mine out for a 4g modem this week! It’s amazing what you can do with these cars if you have some Forscan knowledge and some eBay skills
