Hello,
so i am from Europe (Germany at the moment) and i own a 2016 Lincoln MKX with sync 2 and i was able to use the Lincoln way app when there were still 3G network but as we all know there is no more 3G so i had to upgrade the TCU with new one, i did ordered an American K*** TCU from 2019 nautilus and on the sync2 screen was showing me ESN Unknown so then i was reading around that i have to downgrade it to J*** version and somehow i was able to do the downgrade it myself and the ESN Number of the TCU showed up on the sync2 screen but there was no activation button on my Lincoln way app… then i start reading again and it turned out that i have to actually find a TCU from European car as the Network here is not the same as it is in USA, so i just said to myself ill do that some other time and here i am again 2 years later trying to do this upgrade once again. I just purchased a new TCU (JX7T-14G229-DL) from a British Ford Focus then i plugged it in the car and i plugged the purple antenna, reset the sync2 and again on the screen it showing me ESN: UNKNOWN and im stuck again… can anyone here help me make this thing work again?
Understand that with Sync 2 you will only get status from the vehicle, a lot of features will not be available. Sync 3.0 would be required for a reasonable feature set.
JX7T-14G229-DL is TCU-E2. This should work. Can you see the TCU in FORScan?
Thank you for the reply. So today i run Forscan and pulled the AB data of the TCU. Let me know if i need to do some changes and what exactly, im very green in that so please be patient and thanks for you help once again:) im attaching photos from the Forscan and i noticed that the TCU visible on the forscan is with slightly different number than the one on the actual TCU sticker.
That is common, part numbers vary in production.
Can you post your APIM asbuilt?
This is APIM AB data
This is Live Data Streaming
I run FORscan today and pull this data for you, didnt do any changes. Sync2 screen still shows unknown ESN and Lincoln way app still doesnt show activation button. Hope you can help me pull that off
Originally The car was equipped with 3G tcu and When there were still 3G network i had no problems using it here in europe and was abble to have futures on the app like START/STOP, LOCK/UNLOCK, oil life, car exact location. Would love to have these futures again, i really enjoyed it
You need to correct the country code in the APIM asbuilt from 5553 to the country you are in and then reboot the APIM. Then reset the TCU to factory and then back to the original region setting, which is EU.
Thanks alot! Any idea what code i should type in for europe? And not really familiar how to reset the tcu and then put it back to normal, is it ok if you gyde me trough this steps?
Germany code is 474D. In your asbuilt you will replace the 5553 with this value.
You should also correct the country code in the ACM also.
It appears the APIM is already set for a TCU.
TCU, the first line of code: B238 0000 0047 is not correct for your vehicle. It designates a Gen 3 APIM and a diesel engine.
B=RF Enabled, AT Gen3
2=Diesel
38=VA CGEA 1.3, TDR EU, OCS Configured
You will need to enter A138 0000 0000 (The last 2 zeros are placeholders to let FORScan calculate the checksum bits. They will change to the calculated value.)
A=RF Enabled, AT Gen2
1=Gasoline
38=VA CGEA 1.3, TDR EU, OCS Configured
Remember this value…
Use the attached instructions for resetting the TCU.
Sync Connect APIM & TCU Programming and Activating.pdf (520.8 KB)
Ok im coming with some update, unfortunately it didnt work. I did all the steps, changed the country code for Germany in the APIM, then changed the country code in the ACM as well( hope i did that right as im not relaly aware if this was the corect code for the ACM, changed the line from 727-04-01-0001-0155-53DD to this one 727-04-01 0001 0174 D37C, then master reset of the sync2 unit, then changed the value in the TCU AB to A138 0000 0000 and wile FORScan was doing its thing that last two 00 changed to 36 by itself, then i run the live streaming of the TCU and it says that the tcu is in AUTHORIZED MODE, i waited like 20 minutes and nothing changed. The CPPM ESN: still UNKNOWN. Am i missing something?
727-04-01 0001 0174 D37C needs to be 727-04-01 0001 0147 4Dxx (xx will be the new checksum, let FORScan do that.)
Just changing the value to A138 0000 0036 will not reset the modem. You need to follow thru with changing the value to A100 0000 0000 and writing that to reset the modem connection and disconnect it from the Ford servers, then write back the A138 0000 0036 code to activate the modem again. This is in the instructions…
I must have miss that on the instructions. Anyway i just run this value on the tcu waited atleast 20 minutes but nothing changed, stil showing authorized mode and the sync2 unit doesnt recognize the tcu (ESN: Unknown). I dont know if i am doing something wrong. Do i have to update the TCU firmware, as i remember when i had the American K*** TCU at first it was showing me ESN:Unknown and then When i downgrade it with different firmware to J**** its ESN number showed in the sync2 screen.
Instead of the A100, try A139 to see if you can get it to go to factory mode. If it does go to factory mode, then change it back to A138 and see if it will authenticate.
But, there is still the issue of the APIM not seeing the TCU. Have you performed a master reset on the APIM since you installed the TCU?
Yes i did master reset like 3-4 times but it still says ESN:Unknown. I saw a video of a guy with MKZ and he actually at first updated his TCU calibration level trough FORScan and then run the values and then he was able to use his lincoln way app. Ill try A139 first thing tomorrow and ill let you know what had happen
Your APIM is already at a J firmware, but not the latest, -CT.
What firmware files did you load in the K-series? File names…
I tried using A139 but it didnt worked, then i went and checked in FORscan if there us any firmware update available for that tcu i have and there is an update, then i found forscan v2.4.17 version that will allow me to do updates and it is showing me update that actually matches same file names and was working in the american tcu, i just tried updating the firmware on that one and see if it will show the ESN on the screen but fosescan says: downloading jx7t-14g141-ct: not available under the trial extended license. I have these same files already downloaded in my HDD couse i did use them previously for the american tcu and wondering uf i can actually use then for the european tcu?
The American TCU itself was: KA1T-14G229-AG
Then i downloaded these files to downgrade it:
ECS Config:
JL3T-14G144-CT.vbf
Secondary Boot Loader:
JX7T-14G141-AA.vbf
Strategy:
JL3T-14G139-CT.vbf
I run those in FORScan and flashed the TCU, only then its ESN appear on the screen but i didnt have cell signal as it was American TCU and it was showing Unprovisioned Mode as well.
Updating the firmware is probably what you will need to do. The APIM needs to see the TCU before anything will work.
Ok this is what i got as files in my laptop, ill load them into forscan and start programing, but i just ran into an issue here, i had forscan 2.4.16v. and it was working but for some reason it wont download the latest tcu firmware version on its own so luckily i have the files to load them but before i do that i had the “GREAT” idea to uninstall forscan and then reinstall it on my laptop…i did that and then turned out i dont have the instalatuon file for 2.4.16 anymore and now i cant find nowhere forscan 2.4+v. Any ideas where can i get it?
Bellow are the files i have for custom programing in FORScan, double check for me please
See your PM…
So i finally was able to make my 2016 Lincoln MKX working with the 4G TCU here in Germany. First of all i wanna say HUGE Thanks to @F150Chief ! Without this guy i wouldn’t be able to pull that off!
1:
For 2016 MKX with Sync2 to be able to use the 4g tcu here in Germany i needed to find a European TCU Jxxx series.
2:
Replace the new TCU with the old one and then changed the country of the APIM and the ACM as well as in my case these two were set to North America and then im not really sure if that is required but i did a master reset of the unit.
3:
In FORScan had to program the new TCU with the latest available firmware update and to do so you will be required to to have FORScan 2.4+ version so you can be able to update the firmware. If you dint have paid license you wont be able to download the updates trough FORScan as this was my case and luckily i had already the files from before stored in my computer so i load them manually and did the programing with extended 2 months license and right after the programing did another master reset of the Sync2 unit and then the APIM start seeing the TCU.
4:
In the TCU AsBuild data i had to change the value if the first line from 754-01-01 A138 0000 0036 to 754-01-01 A100 0000 0000 in order to start the activating process but that did t work in my case so what i did was chamging the value to 754-01-01 A139 0000 0000 and then right after i get the TCU in Factory mode then i changed back the value to 754-01-01 A138 0000 0036 and the TCU from Factory mode went trough Unprovisioned mode and then to waiting for authorization mode.
5:
On the Lincoln Way app i already deleted the vehicle on the previous day and restarted the phone so when i got the waiting for authorization mode i run the app, add the vehicle and was able to activate it.
Once again i wanna say thanks to F150Chief, he was guiding me trough all the steps and now i wanna share my experience and hopefully this will help others
