2018 F-150 4" won't update

I’ve tried to update my sync 3 4" display but it will not update. I created a usb from ford website to upgrade from 2.3.17118 to 2.3.23254 but it stays in updating for hours. I then used interrogator to pull what current, I get an error message saying "Syn3 Udater has determined you are on 2.3.17118 and may be using overlays. Syn3 Updater is unable to determine the config of your apim. Here is the as-built

Any help would be appreciated on updatingthe sync 3 system.

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Non Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 2.3.17118

New SYNC Version: 2.3.17118

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Syn3 updater can’t determine configuration of APIM

Update Method: Official Ford

Keep in mind Syn3Updater does not handle 4 inch variants.

Have you tried a master reset?.

Share the autoinstall.lst file Ford sent your way.

I’ve tried master reset and it did nothing. I also pulled the fuse for 1/2 hour and that did nothing. I only used Syn3updater to pull the information, i know i have to do a manual install.

Here is the install file

; SYNC3 CD Assembly Upgrade - Release 2.3.13 - Only for NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JL7T-14G381-AL
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JL7T-14G381-AL.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay,Transaction

I know its not a big leap in the system but i figured it would do it in steps.
Thanks

I see no real reason as to why it’s stuck, but we have limited information.

I was trying to find a different variant for 4 inch screens that do not require reformat, but I’ve not been able to find it.

How big is the file that you are trying to autoinstall?. An apps only upgrade should take a couple of minutes, so it’s not doing anything …

I will have to get back to you on that, I’m away from my laptop. Maybe tomorrow or Sunday.

Sorry for the delay, here is an image of the file.

Would having MYKEY turned on stop any update from downloading?

Thank you, so it’s about 300MB.
About your question, no, as long as the unit is powered on, it should update without issues.

I’ve trying to find an alternate version for you to try for an 4 inch, but I’ve not been able to. We have JL7T-14G381-AJ listed in our db, but that’s the last one we have. Based on the naming convention I would think that’s also for 4 inch screens (size is similar). It’s also newer than the one you are currently running on the unit, but older than the one Ford pushed your way.

I do not see any real reason as to why you can’t upgrade with the package you already have. Have you tried multiple USBs to discard that as an issue? (unlikely since the initial upgrade message appears). Is there another device connected to the vehicle when you are trying to upgrade?.

I’ve tried multiple USB’s with different formats ( fat32 and exfat). There is no other device connected either. I will try the file you have and see if it works. The unit works fine but drops my connection every once in a while so I was hoping a newer version would help. I’m away for the holiday without the truck so it will be 2 weeks before I can try it…

Thank you for the help and have a great holiday!
