2020 F250 Sync 3 USB Hub Issue

If it’s only 1 wire for illumination it would have power on it controlled thru the illumination system. It’s not CANBUS. I really don’t know why there is a 3rd wire there. These are just normally power and ground.

Not real sure what’s going on. FORScan is all good. The DTCs were from me having the usb hub disconnected with the ignition on.

The usb hub voltage is 16.26 volts. Seems high. I believe the APIM powers this, but I ran a FORScan APIM test and it passed. Not sure if high voltage is causing the hub to not be recognized or used. It is odd that with ignition on I can remove either the power connector or mini usb connector and plug it back in and it works until the next ignition cycle. The only other thing I can try is a new mini usb between the APIM and USB hub.

I’m at a loss…

You could disconnect the 3rd wire to see if that is affecting anything. I can’t find that in any hub info online. It is specific to something I suppose.

The two most interesting things to me are the high 16.26 volts at ignition on and some remnant voltage after ignition off, about 0.10 volts

So I decided to go back out and run FORScan again. This time I did the APIM self test and pulled three codes.

B1252:13 USB Port Circuit Open
B12B8:13
B1600:13

At that point the hub was not functioning.

While the ignition was on, I unplugged the mini USB from the back and re connected to get the hub functioning. At that point I re ran the APIM self test and had zero codes.

Seems strange. Why is it sensing an open circuit when starting from ignition off to ignition on, but once ignition is on all I have to do is disconnect and re connect the mini USB on the back and works normally.

Something in the USB hardware driver in the APIM not initializing, maybe.
You tried other cables?

Maybe the USB cable is pinched somewhere?

Yep tried other iPhone usb cables. Never spilled anything down there. At this rate I’m really hoping it’s the cable from APIM to the hub. Testing that on Friday when it gets here. I found another forum where the poster had the same codes and his APIM cable to hub had a cut into it where it rubbed a metal console bracket.

I think I saw the same post. That is a possibility. I’ve shaved the ends down to fit the USB openings for testing. Takes a little patience.

You don’t keep a USB thumb drive in it do you?

Nope sure don’t.

Just updating the thread, I made a test cable and found that the lower mini usb cable that connects into the hub and connects to the upper cable (APIM) was the problem. New cable ordered. Thanks for all the suggestions and help!!

Great! Thanks for the update!
