2020 Lincoln MKZ updating Sync 3 and mpas

So I want to update the maps and Sync 3 in my 2020 Lincoln MKZ. I’ve read about the different install procedure only updating a 2020 APIM. It makes me kind of nervous to do. Don’t want to brick it.

BUT. Is it safe to assume this car doesn’t have a 2020 APIM since my latest maps are 2018?

Thanks

No, if you don’t want to take the risk, your best bet is to let Syn3 Updater guide you in to checking if you have a MY20 unit or not using interrogator log

Take a moment to re-read what you said:

Don’t you see any issue in that logic?..
You are asking if it’s safe to assume that a MY20 model does not have a MY20 APIM…

As previously said, check for MY20, do not ever assume stuff (that’s how you break things)…

If you want to be safe, jailbreak the unit and reformat it with FMODS’ tool (we do not support that)…

I just thought it would have later year maps being it’s a 2020 car.

But I will use the Cynlabs program to check to see if it’s a 2020 APIM.

I did find that I can update the Sync version from Fords website for free. Of course have to pay for the MAP update.

I don’t know what Fmods is. I saw it in the Program update prompts but not sure I want to do that.

Possibly but i wouldn’t base potentially bricking my APIM on it,

NEVER trust in Ford’s logic… They even pushed MY20 hardware APIMs with Sync3 3.0…
So yes, check the model number before doing anything to it… If it’s good, then we will see…
Have you ran the interrogator log against the unit?.

Google is your friend, you will be able to find it. Also, Naviupgrade has a video about how the process would go…

You can’t reformat MY20 hardware with Syn3updater, so if you really want maps updates, look into that…

My MY17 car has maps from 2015, so…

No, haven’t ran the interrogator yet.
I was going to but was confused at first since it take out the usb drive and insert in the car. Then I guess you plug it back in the computer and I guess plug it back to have the updater see if it’s a 2020 apim.

But I think I understand how it works now.

I’ll be honest it’s not a huge deal to update the maps. Always got my phone for maps. I just like having everything update for piece of mind. lol

Ohh man. Looks like way too much work to update sync 3.
Might be easier finding a 2019 APIM and updating that. lol

It’s not THAT hard… you do not need to unmount anything, it has been a long way since the early days… But it’s not as simple as running a simple upgrade USB…

But do not get ahead of yourself, run the interrogator (or check the APIM’s model in the bezel diagnostics menu) and see what it is…

So, got in the diagnostics menu. Thanks for letting me know about it.

These are the specs on the APIM. Is this a 2020
Looks like it wanted to download the latest sync over wifi too.

Yes, it is: 5U5T-14G371-CHD.

Thank you.

So I guess I should let the it update the Sync software over wifi and try updating the maps using Syn3 Updater?

I recommend reading the basic instructions → Basic Usage - CyanLabs

You can install whatever you feel like with syn3updater as long as it’s only autoinstalls. Keep MY20 protection active at all times., do not run other installations that are not autoinstall.

You won’t be able to update to the latest maps.

So, no maps. That sucks.

Well, it’s my wifes cars and she really doesn’t drive it out of town anyways. So I guess 2018 maps will have to do. Or android auto.

Thanks for all your help Sandman
