A little niche but in-case anybody ends up needing- Installing Sync 3 in a non-sync police interceptor sedan

This might not be applicable to most people.

I recently got a 2016 Interceptor Sedan and thinking it would be a quick upgrade from 4-8" screen i ended up picking up a SYNC3 APIM and screen(from my own 2015 F150) and the 4-8" harness.

Once I removed the FCIM and looked around everywhere possible around/under the dash, i could not find the SYNC module. Thats when i realised its a non-sync car. Long intro but the motivation behind the whole project.

Went through the diagram for a Taurus with SYNC 2(attached) and made a harness

The ACM/radio only had 1 of the two connectors populated, the C240A connector can be used for SYNC, which takes in stereo input from the SYNC2/3 module. I could not find a real part number for it, other than Fords, went to a junkyard and luckily found it.

The car also did not come with a factory microphone, so while at the junkyard, also salvaged a mic and installed it

Testing the radio

After everything worked in test, wrapped up the harness and installed everything and boom nothing would work, removed the screws and rested it on the radio and it worked, as soon as i go to install it back, it would turn off and wont come back. Was missing a ground connection somehow, ran a ground to behind the sync3 screen and apim to the body.

Voila everything worked on the radio, except the climate control.

Found the VIN from the junkyard Taurus and was able to get its AS-built, updated that using Forscan and the on-screen Climate control was fixed as well.

Also got a center console from the junkyard as well, printed a little cubby for where the floor shifter would go on a civilian Taurus

I did the same in a PIU but I tapped and repinned all my wires from the OEM places including the Canbus connections.

I did contemplate on doing that but when i last pulled a dash on my ‘15 F150(got with blown passenger bag, had to replace the dash), i ended up breaking the connector on the collapsible steering column sensor, in my infinite wisdom decided to put a little superglue, it didnt end up working and i destroyed the sensor, could only find a blown one, had to send it to get it rebuilt.

And it was a absolutely frustrating ordeal to pull the whole dash and put another one back by myself.

In short unless someone is paying, I would do anything to avoid pulling a dash, also the car already had a Y-harness
