Ambient Lighting Troubleshooting

Hello!

I have a 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium, OEM everything

Unsure if issue is related to SYNC 3.4 or not. Issue has been going on for a long time and happened around the same time as my upgrade to 3.4, but was kindof ignored due to these being aesthetic and other more pressing life issues.

Ambient lights in doors work as expected and color change properly with on-screen adjustments. USB port lights and interior dome lights work fine as well.

Ambient lights in center well, both front footwells, cupholder, storage bin light in center console (not sure if equipped tbh), and glovebox light (not sure if equipped) do not work AT ALL.

Dome controls work fine, including sunroof/moonroof controls. Have had water leaks from clogged sunroof drains a few times.

I have tried APIM As Built and BCM As Built from Motorcraft using ForScan as well as a Master Reset with no luck.

I am beginning to think it’s a wiring issue, but even after buying a Haynes manual, I can’t find resources on where the wiring is exactly. I believe there is a switch on the inside of the dome that may have been damaged due to water leak? the other option is the ambient light module (that I THINK is in the center console under the cupholders.)

Does anyone have any resources for the wiring that may help or advice/other things to try before I resort to pulling the interior apart this weekend? Is there something in ForScan that I am missing?

Becuse your lights in the door are working than you know it is a wiring issue. The lights that are not working are powered from the BCM.

Not a programming issue. Possible wiring issue. Look online for a wiring diagram.

Most likely the cup holder led wire harness is damaged. It’s common for drinks to spill and damage the circuit board that holds those LEDs. Same symptoms too, the doors will work and everything else won’t. Wire harness is now superseded by part number HS7Z-14A318-E. I had the same issue and this harness fixed it. The old harness was very obviously damaged by liquid so I would check yours before ordering the part.

Depending on the car, Ford did some odd things on some of the 2019 & 2020 Fusions and gave them ambients on the rear of the console instead of the cup holders.

(btw you can also add the rears if you don’t have them, its a simple 3 wire splice HS7Z63045D72EC / HS7Z-63045D72-DB).

With the exception of the doors, ALL of the modules are the same there’s just a change to the light pipe fitted to the holder so worst case you can hit a salvage yard and use one from say the right foot well on the front console bin, etc.
