APIM has 7.4GB free space, enough to add Central EU maps of size 2.53GB?

I live in EU and car APIM is 32GB from US. I would like to know if I have room to add 1 more map using the cutdown tool.

APIM Type: Navigation
APIM Size: 32GB
APIM Free Space: 7.4G
Version 3.4.22110 (5U5T-14G381-EZ)

Currently installed maps: Bulgaria, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Russian, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Moldova (2.63GB)

Currently installed voice package: Dutch, English (British), French, German (2.44GB)

I want to add central eu: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Slovakia, Poland and Liechtenstein (2.53GB)

Given I have 7.4 gb free and Central EU maps are 2.53GB, can I squeeze them in?

Cyanlabs estimation says: 2.53GB * 1.5 + 1.5GB = 5.295GB so I guess 7.4GB is enough right?

I only want to update maps and syn3updater auto selects autoinstall.

Thank you in advance.

Is the unit MY20?.

I think the unit will be left at the limit for future package processing, usually you need 1.7 GB of free space to get things going. Personally, I would not install another map without making room first, or leaving a way so that you could free up maps if needed.

Do you need that voice package?

Good day and good to hear from you. My car is a Fusion 2017 and the APIM is stock so it’s not a MY20. I do need voice package for navigation because I find it better to listen than look into the screen when driving so in this case I guess I will just leave the current map and voice package I have and use Google maps when I am in central EU.

Out of curiosity, how to free up space? Is it as simple as just disabling voice package during the download process for the update or even simply leaving out the voice package when generating the map cutdown license?

Oh, I thought you were talking about a simple voice package, not a nav_voice one. Voice package is for Sync3, the nav one is for, well, nav…

Can you post the complete list of packages installed?.

About deleting maps, only 2 ways:

  • reformatting the unit (which you could, since it’s not MY20), that actually erases everything.
  • having the unit jail broken and using FMODS’ special tool to remove nav stuff.

Here are the list of installed packages:

APIM Model: Unknown
APIM Type: Navigation
APIM Size: 32GB
APIM Free Space: 7.4G

Version 3.4.22110 (5U5T-14G381-EZ)
Partition Type = Free / Total
/fs/sd/MAP/ = 976K / 1.2G
/fs/sd/MAP/ = 26M / 3.7G
/fs/sd/MAP/ = 27M / 3.4G
/fs/Nuance/ = 30M / 5.0G
/fs/Nuance/ = 8.4M / 1.9G
/fs/Nuance/grace = 21M / 1003M
/fs/rwdata/ = 969M / 1.2G
/fs/rwdata/quip/ = 35M / 35M
/fs/rwdata/quip/ = 90M / 90M
/fs/mp/ = 84M / 1.4G
/fs/mp/resources = 332K / 72M
/fs/images/ = 7.4G / 25G

Installed Packages
1U5T-14G421-BAL
1U5T-14G421-BBL
1U5T-14G421-BHL
5U5T-14G391-AS
4U5T-14G422-BAL
4U5T-14G423-AC
1U5T-14G658-AH

Please ignore “APIM Model: Unknown” after updating from sync 3.0 to 3.4 my apim lost it’s model number and asBuilt says blank but that doesn’t affect anything. Tried to fix it via forscan but it doesn’t work so just ignore that.

That’s the list of all packages installed and the memory allocation

You could try either going to an earlier or latest 3.4…

Ok, the big voice file is for nav, so nothing to do there. You could remove gracenotes and shrink the voice package if more space is needed in the future. Also you could downgrade to 3.3 to then reformar the unit.

I think you could try installing the map you want, I believe there are some plan b…

Thank you so much for the advice man. I appreciate it and I will try to experiment, I have already faced the red screen before so I am more calmer doing this.

Btw sorry for chatting about this in that thread specifically about new map updates. I will pay attention to the chat rule better next time . Cheers

Good day, btw we might want to update this info because this part causes problems in some cars including mine:

SDARS Region should be set to unconfigured:
727-04-01 xxx0 xxxx xxxx
SDARS Region: 0=unconfigured, 1=U.S., 2=CANADA, 3=no content.

SDARS Data Services should be set to unconfigured:
727-04-01 xxxx x0xx xxxx
SDARS Data Services: 0=unconfigured, 1=Data Services, 2=no Data Services.

SDARS Region: 0= unconfigured causes ACM module to throw misconfiguration DTC because it seems SDARS Region should have some configuration if the car has a SDARS Antenna. From what I realised best settings in this case are:

SDAR no content
727-04-01 xxx3 xxxx xxxx
SDARS Region: 0=unconfigured, 1=U.S., 2=CANADA, 3=no content.

SDARS No data services
727-04-01 xxxx x2xx xxxx
SDARS Data Services: 0=unconfigured, 1=Data Services, 2=no Data Services.

Your vehicle is an exception. This error will only be seen in certain radios and of those only equipped with SDARS exported from NA. It is not a MIL activating DTC. The ‘no content’ setting tells the receiver to ignore the no service flag, subscribed or not. However, good catch.

Yes so it’s most likely to affect cars imported from US

Yes, specifically those who are keeping the US ACM that is equipped with SDARS. Many EU imports from the US replace the ACM with an EU equivalent to enable DAB and traffic features.

Incredible point. Would be great if you mention this in the source material. Thank you

No worries, good luck with the experimentation.

Just keep in mind that the less free memory you leave the most likely a reformat will be mandatory in the future for updating maps…

But, you can reformat the unit, so that’s not bad… in fact it’s recommended, since it’s faster and cleaner…

Nevertheless keep that in mind, you are “saturating” the APIM with packages, so MEM ERRORS or failed upgrades in future updates are expected to happen, specially for big packages like maps…
