I’d like to pick some brains on this topic. I have a 2013 fusion titanium and I’m looking into upgrading the bcm to a newer year mainly for the additional logics like the bms profiles amongst other feature sets, according to the 2gfusions forums all 2gs are CGEA 1.3 but the 2013s have a bcm that works differently from later model years, what can I expect to happen when swapping. I do have a bcm from a 2016 se (key switch vs push button/ fwd vs awd) would I be safer getting one out of a titanium model that came with everything my titanium came with?
This is going to be hard to do, the MY2013 on the Fusion is a one off year, back in the day when you could access ETIS there was a note on the MY2014s of “built as Mondeo after xxxx”.
The logic in the entire car is slightly different, as is the firmware in the IPC, RCM, ABS
What exactly are you trying to enable on your Ti that you don’t have now?
So I’ve currently done a few retrofits, mkz ipc, sync 3, lka, tcu (limited to location and vehicle data). My issue I have with the 13 bcm is no bms profiles which is causing an over charge condition on a brand new battery (currently mitigated with an old battery that doesn’t hold a charge) as well as enabling the rest of fordpass functions and other logics that I have on my 16 fusion (not being used due to deer incident). I still need to confirm pinouts but I do have a full parts car with modules if I need to swap all that stuff out
Abs is planned on getting swap anyways for my acc retrofit
If you’re getting an over charge you have another problem since that doesn’t come entirely from the BMS/BCM.
You need to look at the alternator, BMS halo sensors and the PCM.
That’s what I’m thinking but it’s only over charging at 15.1 with a new battery even after doing a bms reset, old battery it’s between 13 and 14
I’ll also make the note that both batteries are identical, only difference is 1 is brand new and the other is 4 years old and sat dead all winter (-30 C)
New battery the same size and technology?
The BMS reads the state of charge not the voltage and adjusts the rate based on perceived age.
Was the BMS reset using ForScan?
Same everything, the car tries to charge it to 100 SoC, then boils the battery over, the old one hasn’t been able to boil over as it can’t ever reach 80 let alone 100
I did both the manufactures way of resetting the bms and FORScan, when I did work it would only last for that drive cycle the go back to over charging, either the bcm/pcm is failing to maintain charge or the internal regulator on the alternator is failing, I haven’t been able to disconnect the alternator plug to default it to 13.7v charging as it’s not in an easy place to get to
Either way, I still want to see if a bcm swap is easily doable (I’m aware pats will need to be done)
