Bronco Sport - Running SYNC3 version 3.4.23188 - Update only maps

Hi. I own a Ford Bronco Sport year 2022. It is currently running Sync3 version 3.4.23188 (upgraded using WI-FI connection through the Sync3 menu). The maps version is SA 2.20 (I live in Argentina). I would like to upgrade the maps version to the latest one. Which would be the simplest and safest way of doing this Syn3Updater? Thanks in advance!

Hello.
You can’t, ANZ maps are ESN locked and require a reformat, something you can’t do with MY20.

:warning: DO NOT REFORMAT THE UNIT WITH AN USB GENERATED BY SYN3UPDATER

Having said that, if you really whant to upgrade it, you can look into jailbreaking the unit and using FMODS’ universal reformat package that can handle MY20 hardware.

You should be entitled to map upgrades using the Ford - Sync3 Map Update

Does Ford ANZ offer 3 or 5 years of free maps? If so you might want to check with the Ford site also.

Thank you so much for your replies. Now I have a better understanding of how all this works. It seems that jailbreaking the unit is one potential alternative to upgrade the maps. Let’s put it aside for now.
A few weeks ago, I was able to download a map update from the Sync3 Map Update site by entering my VIN and ESN numbers. I got a zip file of 12.5 GB. I inspected it and the content is a bunch of tar.gz files with three different prefixes on their names:

  • 4U5T-14G421
  • 4U5T-14G422
  • HB5T-14G386

I’m not sure if these files correspond to the South America maps or are for the North America maps. I wouldn’t want to install this update and end up having North America maps on my unit.

Well, I think you should had said so from the get go, right?.
I mean, that’s no a minor detail.

Is there any .lst file?, like autoinstall.lst?
If so, share that file’s content here.
About knowing which package is what, you can check our SYNC 3 APIM Software (IVSU) Database - CyanLabs

You’re right, I apologize for the omission.

Yes, there is. This is the content

Thanks for that. I checked and it seems that, unfortunately, all the files are for NA region.

Based on that, I assume the only way of updating South America maps is to jailbreak the unit and use FMODS’ universal reformat package. Am I right? Thanks!

Since the vehicle is new and under warranty, I would contact Ford or the dealership for directions.

If Ford thinks your vehicle needs NA maps, it makes me think that maps and re programming was done as “after market” but not centrally.

If that’s the case, reformatting the unit for installing ANZ maps will potentially revert those back, leaving a wrong or incomplete configuration on the APIM. Not that big of a deal, you could get Forscan and an adapter to save your current asbuilt configuration for later re-apply.

But, I feel you should not be doing this since you bought your vehicle locally.

So, call Ford and see what they have to say.

I don’t know how Ford sets the maps for those vehicles which are exported from Mexico to South America.

That makes sense and seems to be the most reasonable thing to do.

Thanks!

I’ve set a 14 days inactivity auto closure for the thread, I think that’s more than enough time for you to get in touch with Ford and contact us if anything else is required.

And if it takes more than 14 days, just report the thread asking for reopening it and we will.
