Cannot talk to apim sync 3 retrofit 2012 Focus ST

Cannot do what was suggested as FORScan automatically detects car and then does a scan. Cannot tell FORscan it’s a newer car as suggested

Open FORScan without a vehicle connected and go to the configuration tab and turn off auto connect. Close FORScan. Connect to vehicle, do not choose your profiles, instaed, choose to do a new scan, tell FORScan it is a 2017/2018 vehicle. It will scan based on that. You will see errors, don’t worry about it. The APIM should show up and you should be able to access it.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT access other modules in this profile. Only the APIM.

If you have not done so, make a new scan before you do this with your vehicle defined, year and model, to see if FORScan just picks up the APIM anyways. You vehicle would have had one…?

How do you “tell Forscan it is a 2017/2018 vehicle”?

When you run a new scan there will be a pull down menu that appears to set the year of the model vehicle you are connected to. This is explained in the FORScan tutorials…External Resources

We don’t get a pull down menu after the initial scan, we only get a popup asking if I want to save the profile (with the vehicle details). See the log attached.

The log shows the 2012 vehicle. Did you make a new profile?

This is the new profile. With the laptop disconnected from the car I deleted all existing profiles from Forscan. I checked to make sure auto connect was not selected in the settings. Connected the laptop to the the car using the Vlinker, turned the ignition on, and selected the connect / scan icon from the bottom left of Forscan. It takes a minute to scan the car, found all the modules above, then asked if I would like to save the profile.

I don’t use Forscan on a daily basis but I have been using it for a couple of years on several cars and don’t remember it ever asking for a vehicle year when doing the initial scan. Is this maybe something specific to US fords?

Forscan will ask for model year when making a new profile. I’m guessing that if there are no differences between the model years it wouldn’t…This is one of those corner cases that you might need a special build from the FORScan team. You can contact them on their website. You will need a paid license for support.

Just FYI, vLinker was removed from the recommended list for FORScan. You can find the workaround solution on the vLinker website if it pertains to you.

This conversion seems to have been done by several people without needing any special builds of Forscan, so I suspect we have another issue, possibly with the wiring patch harness, maybe there are some Canbus wires reversed or in different pin locations between models or variants.

Regarding the vLinker, I use and older Dell laptop that works fine with the adaptor. It has been fast and stable on the cars I have tried it on.
