I have a 2015 F250 XLT CC. I added heated cooled seats from a platinum and I have enabled them in Forscan, and they work in my Phoenix Android 12 Tesla style radio. I have also just added a heated steering wheel/module and completed all of the wiring. It is enabled in Forscan, but the button on the Phoenix radio will not turn it on. I do have a Forscan error, showing HSWM U0256:00-48 Lost communication with Front Controls Interface Module ‘A’
Do I need to change my APIM and try to upgrade from Sync 1 to allow the button to work and clear the DTC in the HSWM?
I suspect your HSWM runs on a CGEA 1.3 network. Your F-150 would have a CGEA 1.2 network so it would not work on that. I have seen this issue before and that was the DTC displayed. Just a guess though since I don’t know the exact car model it came out of. It’s really just a calibration difference as the wiring is the same.
Again, it depends on the year. An upfitter switch will not work as it is controlled by the network. The module has constant power to it. This all just a guess though based on the error.
You see the module on the network in Forscan so it has to be the right network. Gotta be wiring, hardware or a setting.
Is there a way I can bypass the soft button and trick the HSWM into believing it is receiving the message to turn on via manipulation of the two CAN wires?
The attached diagrams are the way I have the wiring and the route the module activates
That is the right module for your 2015 F-250. However, you removed the FCIM (or HVAC module) and you can no longer control the module. The FCIM settings define if the vehicle is equipped with an HSWM. Without the FCIM there is no network logic path to the HWSM.
You will likely have to contact the Phoenix folks and see if the ‘tesla-style’ unit will control an HWSM in an F-250 CGEA 1.2 network. I know they have done extensive work in the CGEA 1.3 formats but have not seen if they have extended that to CGEA 1.2 for the older models. F-250 went to CGEA 1.3 in 2017 with the current redesign.
Thanks, I’ll reach back out to them. Their original answer was “We noticed that your original unit has no heated steering wheel control, so it won’t work in our unit too, which is normal”
“Please take a video for us to check how does it work, we haven’t met this kind of situation before so we need all the information of it so that can forward to our technician to see if we have any firmware or CAN change for you.”
I have sent them the requested video, so now, just waiting to hear back.
