Hey all! Haven’t been around here in ages. Life shenanigans and all.
Wanted to reach out to see if anyone knows if there’s any documented info on the AsBuilt data for a non-Sync FCDIM in a base 2015 Explorer. I think in previous topics I’ve briefly talked about a 2015 Explorer a relative owns that is barebones basic and we’ve been piecemealing upgrades as the budget allows. Recently decided to upgrade the base AM/FM/CD/Aux ACM to one equipped with Sirius+HD Radio. Got the ACM dialed in. Mainly copy/pasted the AsBuilt from the old ACM and adjusted the options for HD Radio and Sirius.
The FCDIM is the big question mark though. I’ve looked all over and there’s little crumbs of info that seem to be focused on the Sync capable FCDIMs from various models. I was able to use some of this info to successfully get Sirius enabled and working but no luck finding anything that enables HD Radio functionality. There’s one post somewhere I stumbled upon (I will have to dig later this evening and get actual data and the current AsBuilt config I’m working with and post here) where someone was able to enable it on their Sync equipped FCDIM but had no luck on my end. HD Radio does work. I can definitely tell when it locks to the digital signal and I can convince it to tune to subchannels with the tuning knob even though it doesn’t indicate HD1/HD2/HD3/etc on the screen. No metadata displayed, just shows the base frequency and that’s all you’ve got. Sadly I even tried disabling HD Radio on the ACM to see if it would fall back to base RDS data which the old ACM supported just fine but even then nothing displays.
Might be a long shot and I have a suspicion this FCDIM probably doesn’t support it but wanted to check if anyone had any leads. Not a deal breaker but would be nice to get it sorted if I can until we can get the parts/wiring together to get Sync added to this vehicle.
There are no AB values for an 11-15 Explorer FCDIM. The HVAC uses it’s own module is these also and not the FCDIM for it. They do have calibration though, but I have never seen an update for one. The only change I am aware of is the hazard light button was changed in 2014 to a physical button. In 2016 they changed the Explorer to CEGA 1.3 so those FCDIM’s will not work on a 11-15 just FYI. They also do not have any AB values.
Are you sure? Because I specifically modified the FCDIM AsBuiilt, not the FCIM. I needed to do that to make Sirius available and not just show ‘Sirius not available’ when hitting the button for it even with the new ACM installed. Another detail I also forgot was discovering the correct bit to enable the reverse camera through the FCDIM. No reverse camera installed yet but it does switch to a blue screen when shifting to reverse and when back to drive it showed a clear error about the camera not being available.
Let me go out and grab what I have configured already.

Here’s the one lone thread I was able to find with any mention of enabling HD Radio but it is also focused on a Sync-equipped FCDIM, though other threads with notes on enabling stuff like Sirius or the backup camera on Sync FCDIM’s seemed to translate successfully to this non-Sync model.
They changed 7A5-01-01 0222 000X from 8 to 9. Mine was set to 0 from the factory. I not only tried putting a 9 there but also a 1 (figuring out the individual bit that was changed and just adjusting that. They essentially went from 1000 to 1001. Mine started with 0000 so went to 0001.) and nada.
