Hello! I need a little help. I saw the possibility of installing a TCU in the 2018 Ford Focus. And I found everything for it, but I have a problem that I only found US models, that is, cars like that. Which, if they were well informed, will not be good because I have an EU car and I live in Europe. However, I found another car 2021 mk3 Ford III Kuga, would it be good for me? LV4T-14G229-FM EU cart
The L series TCU uses the HS4 Canbus which a 2018 Focus does not have. So no that TCU will not work. You need a J series TCU from Europe.
You would need a European J series not an L series so to use the above number sequence as an example it would need to start with JX instead of LX.
The other option would be to downgrade the firmware on the L series unit to J series firmware.
If you do a search on here you’ll find an entire set of threads on this as well as F150Chief’s write up.
I understand, so the European ones starting with JX are good
But if I see something that starts with LX, it’s also good, I just have to put another firmware on it?
If anyone has firmware for the LX series, please share it with me. or a link so I can download it
No, the EU units starting with J as opposed to L
The X7T etc doesn’t really matter at all.
So to use US part numbers because they are easy for me, in my 2018 Fusion I could use a JL3T (from an F150). JB5T (from an Explorer), JR3T (from a Mustang), etc.
I could not use a LS7T from a 2020 Fusion or a KS7T from a 2019 Fusion as these use a data bus type that my car doesn’t have.
So what are the offers for a 2018 Ford Focus? Supports HS3
JX7T-14g229-aj 2018 Ford will be good for it right?
If its coming out of a EU car that should work.
ANYTHING J supports HS3 and it doesn’t have to come from a Focus, it could come from a Fiesta, Puma, Mondeo, etc
Units starting K. L, M, N etc are all HS4 units.
Then you need a left-hand drive car that starts with JX7T
If you need to add more info then edit an existing post, stop spamming the thread with multiple consecutive additions.
TCU cares not if the car is left hand or right hand.
It DOES care about what cell data carriers are available in the region that its going to be in. eg a NA TCU won’t work in Europe as AT&T is not a native carrier there.
I know that it doesn’t work that way, but I asked above. You can also find out how to know which one is from the EU if it is not written on the car that it was made and driven in Europe.
Clear warlock12118?
There are countries outside of the UK in the EU that drive on the left side of the road.
Your best best is going to be getting one from a donor in an EU salvage yard where the model is one that was never available in NA like the Kuga/Puma/Mondeo.
EU TCUs don’t get produced just in the EU much like the FCIM in a Mondeo/Fusion which could come from Mexico or Germany, in the US Fusions made at Flat Rock often had ones from Germany while ones from Hermosillo where usually sourced from Mexico.
