Ford Sync 3.4 Upgrade 2013 F-150

Hello! I am new to the community and have been trying to figure out how to upgrade my Sync 3 unit to the latest version. I performed an upgrade from the factory Sync2 kit to the Sync3 system myself (the VIN number is correct for the 2013 F-150). However, I am on Sync version 3.2 Build 18275. I do have Navigation.

How do I perform this upgrade? I don’t want to brick the screen and I have a Mac (no Windows) so looking for any assistance for folks who may be in this situation.

Thanks in advance!

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Unknown

Install Type: OEM Replacement

Old SYNC Version: 3.2.18275

New SYNC Version: 3.2.18275

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?

Update Method: Official Ford

Hello.

As long as the unit not being MY20, you can’t brick it.
If you have doubts, share the APIM model…

Thank you for the reply! I believe my APIM model is JL3T-14G370-HKB, but if that’s not accurate not positive how to find it.

Any tips on how to do this installer with a Mac?

That’s not the APIM model but the assembly. If the unit is running, go into bezel diagnostics and check there. Otherwise, create and run an interrogator log and share the resulting XML file.

Follow the manual tutorial, the app is just a facilitator.

I went to Bezel Diagnostics, I see:
Assembly Part Number: HB5T-14G371-CCA
H/W Part: HB5T-14G380-BA

So that’s an “old” APIM, so it should be fine. You should be able to reformat it without issues (unless the screen is MY20, which would be unlikely).

Follow the manual guide as posted before.

If you have forscan and an adapter it would be a good idea to save your current asbuilt so that you can apply it if needed once upgraded. Since this is a retrofit, this may be required.

Thank you. Yes that was my last question - I have a file for the retrofit that was made for this VIN (like heated/cooled seats on the sync screen). I was wondering if installing this 3.4 wipes the VIN specific config?

It’s possible, yes. But if you have that file, you can apply it back once you are done.

Do you have Forscan and an adapter?

I should have the adapter yes. I do remember using the trial of Forscan when I put this in the F-150 to apply the file. But does Forscan only work on Intel? I only have an M chip computer now so not sure how I can get Forscan to work if that’s still the case…may have to borrow a PC from a friend

Just wanted to report that the manual install steps/process worked for me and all installed well - and no need to reapply the asbuilt file since this was a sync 2 to sync 3 mod so all good there too.

Thanks for the help!
