Hi guys, I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence or not but I’ve updated my vehicle (2016 Lincoln MKX) to SYNC 3 version 3.4 and it appears that I’ve lost the heated steering wheel function. It could be coincidence or it could be due to the update. Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated or if this is a known problem with this version etc.
Hi.
Perform a master reset if you haven’t done so.
The Sync version has nothing to do with the HSWM. It is totally independent other than the APIM can send a signal through the CanBus to turn it off and on.
Now if your saying you lost the HSW button on the sync screen than that is something else. Considering the 16 MKX never came with Sync 3 it is also worth pointing out that this is a retrofit and it could be many other things.
Hi there, do you mean just do the reset from the settings screen?
Thanks for the input!
I’ve had SYNC 3 for a couple years now with the steering wheel for a while now. It was done in the summer so I haven’t had to try it until now. I don’t know if it’s this version of something physically wrong with it.
You also have to change out the clockspring. But either way Sync would have nothing to do with its operation unless the AB was wrong and did not show the GUI button.
Even then the HSW should work without the HSW buttons in Sync. There should be a button control in the HVAC screen menu in Sync 2 and 3. Make sure that is there also.
But, nothing above would cause the HSW to not work, it is independent of the Sync system, regardless of version. In the MKX, the HSW function is controlled thru the FCIM and the HSWM. resetting those 2 modules with FORScan might fix the issue if the HSW is indeed good and the modules just need a reset.
How do you know the HSW is not working?
The HSW button is in fact there on the home screen and the climate screen. The icon does change to red and stay red. The steering wheel can be on for an hour and is still as cold as the minute it was turned on. I can go in through Forscan this morning and try resetting modules and see what happens and if I currently have any errors with any of said modules.
When you installed the HSW did you replace the Clockspring? What DTC’s is Forscan showing you?
I didn’t install the HSW it’s factory and worked until either the latest update or coincidentally this fall. I haven’t plugged into Forscan yet but will right away here.
This is what lead me to belive you installed the HSW. If you had sync 3 for a couple years than mention you had something since summer that is very confusing. Not sure what to belive you have done now.
You should have DTC’s than for the HSWM, What are they?
Sorry that meant to have read that I installed version 3.4 SYNC this summer. I don’t have an HSWM available to me for whatever reason?
Upon getting into the SECM, I have this error which I assume means the heated steering wheel is toast… i reset the SECM but the error has come back.
That’s probally the answer.
It could be just the wiring…you’ll have to physically trace it out and check the connections and heating element with an ohm meter.
