I have a 2019 Mondeo MK5, built in January 2019, and I was fairly confident that my APIM wouldn’t have MY20 restrictions due to the early build date. However, after checking the APIM module with FORScan, I found the following details:
Part Number: JR3T-14G371-FFB
Calibration Level: JR3T-14G371-FJG
Strategy: HB5T-14G374-CA
Calibration: HB5T-14G375-FA
When I ran this part number (JR3T-14G371-FFB) through CyanLabs’ MY20 checker, it flagged my APIM as MY20. I bought the car in 2022, and the seller didn’t mention any replacements for the radio unit or APIM, so I’m unsure if this is the original module or if it was swapped at some point.
What’s confusing to me is that JR3T APIMs are generally associated with pre-MY20 models, which typically don’t have reformat restrictions. Has anyone else encountered an APIM with a JR3T prefix that’s marked as MY20, or is it possible that some JR3T units were manufactured with MY20 limitations?
What is also confusion to me is that, as far as i know, MY20 APIMs do not come with sync 3.0. I have Sync 3.0.19205 (Europe)
JR3Ts are MY2020 hardware units.
If you have a 2016 that gets the APIM replaced by a dealer they’ll put in a JR3T because that is the service part, not G/H series that the car might have come with.
The easiest way to understand MY2020 hardware is that it was standard in the MY2020, that doesn’t mean it didn’t start hitting the factory in MY2019. Ford builds the vehicle to support what the factory is putting in it, not based on what somebody may want to do with it in an unsupported mod.
Thank you very much for the help and clarification!
Just to confirm, this means there’s no way to use Syn3 Updater to upgrade my APIM from Sync 3.0 to 3.4 due to the MY20 hardware limitations?
I understand this might be beyond the typical scope here on CyanLabs, but I came across information about using Universal Reformat (SyncRenovation) from fMods. It seems that this methode might enable the upgrade from Sync 3.0 to 3.4 even on MY20 APIMs by bypassing the reformat restrictions. I understand that this requires a jailbreak, but I’m considering it, as I’m interested in further modifications down the line.
Has anyone here tried this approach or have any advice on whether this would be safe to use on an MY20 unit like mine? Would you recommend against it?
Any insights or recommendations would be really helpful!
We do not support it, but you can always check the tool’s owner page (FMODS) for guidance. As far as I know, it’s pretty similar to what you would normally do, so it should be easy as well.
