Looking for SYNC 1.0 Version 4.6 Update Files (UK, 2013 Ford Focus)

Hi all,

I’m trying to upgrade my SYNC 1.0 system on a UK 2013 Ford Focus, which is currently running version 3.0.9. I’ve read that version 4.6 is the most stable and recent update available for SYNC 1.0 before it was discontinued, but I can’t find the update files anywhere online — Ford’s official site says no updates are available.

If anyone still has a copy of the SYNC 1.0 version 4.6 update (with the .cab file and autoinstall.lst), I’d really appreciate it if you could share it — Dropbox, Google Drive, or even a zip attachment via DM would work.

Thanks in advance for helping keep old tech running!

In 2013 Ford still used the SYNC 1.0 system. The SYNC 1.0 system does not support USB system updates.

The SYNC 1.0 system can basically only be updated by a Ford dealer. However many SYNC 1.0 APIM (SYNC) modules became bricked during the update process or during the installation of a different language pack. There is a huge chance that the SYNC 1.0 APIM module does not survive the update process. Apart from this the support from the SYNC 1.0 system stopped in 2014 so even if there is an update available it will also be outdated by todays standards.

If the APIM module is the cause of the problem it is much easier and cheaper to change the APIM for a SYNC 1.1 APIM, configure it correctly and perform the 5.11 software update.

Thanks for the concise but comprehensive answer.

It’s odd others claim to have updated etc but I’m happy to accept your solution, as you obviously know what you’re talking about.

I’ve watched a video on installing a new APIM and ordered a used part on eBay so will see how that goes.
