No Audio, Sync 4 Swap using FordSync4

So to start this post off, New here and seems like we have a few intelligent people in here.

Truck info: 2019 Ford F350 Plat.

So i recently bought a sync 4 swap from FORDSYNC4 dot com. I got everything they claim to have working at this moment in time to work in forscan but volume.

I would spin the volume knob and it would show the: 0 Minimum Graphic .

I have read that the first line of the APIM as builts can fix volume stuck on 0 minimum. but the only thing that worked for me was in the ACM. Line ACM 727-01-01 xx*x xxxx xxxx. Before my swap my ACM was using value A. But i recently read that changing this value to 5. This allows for variable volume. This gave my volume knob control over the 0 but no audio output is happening (no music).

Any tips or anything would be greatly appreciated.

This indicates there is no control or feedback from the APIM and ACM communication.

Placing a Sync 4 APIM in a 2019 Platinum vehicle with the stock ACM will require quite a few adjustments to the APIM asbuilt. You should download a Sync 4 APIM asbuilt from a 2021 F-150 Platinum and start from there.

This should make your audio work…
APIM 7D0-01-01
If you have the B&O system, set 7D0-01-01 Xxxx xxxx xxxx to ‘A’. If not, set it to ‘2’.
ACM 727-01-01 (assuming this is a J/K series ACM)
If you have the B&O system then this adjustment will do nothing for you, as the B&O systems is A2B (SPDIF) connection. (Blue cable) There should have been no changes to the wiring by adding the Sync 4 APIM. The asbuilt should not need to be adjusted from the Sync 3 configuration. Make sure that the value at 727-01-01 xxxx Xxxx xxxx is ‘B’. If you do not have the B&O system, the value here should likely be ‘3’.

Your radio presets may not work properly as the APIM is likely set to Mixed Mode Presets.

First off thank you for any response! Very much appreciated.

Is there a way to confirm what ACM i actually have? Based off the as builts you provided near the bottom of your response. i noticed that you have supplied 727-01-04. My current ACM as built stops at 727-01-03 and moves straight on to 727-02-01. Based off that information does that seem like i have a incorrect ACM for this swap?

The truck does have B/O system. and my line 727-01-01 is currently 12A0180200FC from factory. However as i mentioned in my original post that i saw a post that mentioned if i change A to 5 for variable volume itll fix the 0 at minimum. I will switch it back if need be!

As for presets i am not even worried about losing any fuctionality for the radio whatso ever. I only did the swap for bigger display and carplay wirelessly.

Based on the part number reported by FORScan, yuou can find the right asbuilt in the Asbuilt Databases here on the site under the Ford Hub.

The issue with the volume control is in the APIM, not the ACM.

Okay,

So quick update, i loaded a as built from a 21 plat f150 (made sure the ‘A’ was on first row), onto my F350 setup. The entire radio seemed to have gained a tremendous amount of functions throughout the menu. However i know most wont work on my truck but i plan to eventually go back and fine tune it with the as builts on the website here.

The volume issue is still there. and i lost controls to the steering wheel for radio functions.such as seeking and volume and mode.

I also reverted my ACM to the factory As builts from motorcraft site based off my vin.

Looking into the ACM part number next and will report back. I will also provide my as built for the acm and apim next as well for references.

So, I have attempted your suggested change of 727-01-01 xxxx-Xxxx-xxxx change to be B ( i have the B/O).

No Luck

so after looking at this now i am seeing two things, i dont have line 727-01-04 at all. I will attach my as builts. i also see you have that xxxx-Xxxx-xxxx as 1 so the 150 platinum doesnt have b/o?

I am still looking for what model i have without taking the dash back apart again. I dont know exactly how to find that information with forscan.

Just some info based on your VIN…
Your OEM APIM is a JR3T-14G371-CHA.
Your OEM ACM is a KC3T-18D818-CA.

Your OEM APIM Sync 3 asbuilt is:
7D0-01-01 AA2A 0503 24D9
7D0-01-02 0289 4004 8B34

7D0-08-01 0000 0000 00E0
7D0-08-02 0000 0000 00E1

Your OEM ACM asbuilt is:
727-01-01 12A0 1802 00FC
727-01-02 0000 0000 0031
727-01-03 0000 0000 0032
727-02-01 2E5F
727-03-01 285A
727-04-01 0001 0155 53DD

First off, load your OEM ACM asbuilt back into the ACM. Your DSP does not use A2B connection, it uses analog line out of the ACM to the DSP. This is referred to as the B&O Lite system.

For the ACM asbuilt, try changing the EFP control from CAN based to LIN based. This would be required if you installed the Sync 4 12" version with the new large bezel with the knobs below the screen.
This would be 727-01-01 32A0 1802 00xx.

Try the modifications I made to the APIM asbuilt you posted. There is still more stuff to disable but you will need to go thru the Sync 3 and 4 asbuilts feature by feature and line those up.

Something you may need to check is that there are specific wires in place from the APIM to the ACM. These relate to the control of the ACM from the APIM.

Wiring Requirements:

  • The required control wiring for the Satellite Data Link and Digital Radio Data Link (SDL/DRDL) must be in place between the APIM and ACM. 2019 and later vehicles may have this wiring already in place.
  • Wiring required:
    • VMEF7 APIM pin 51 to ACM pin 6 CTRL MOD - Audio Head Unit DRDL_TX_+
    • VMEF8 APIM pin 52 to ACM pin 19 CTRL MOD - Audio Head Unit DRDL_TX_-
    • VMEG1 APIM pin 27 to ACM pin 5 CTRL MOD - BT/MM GW MOD DRDL_TX_+
    • VMEG2 APIM pin 28 to ACM pin 4 CTRL MOD - BT/MM GW MOD DRDL_TX_-

This is a pinout guide for the APIM…

If these wires are in place and the settings do not resolve the issue, I suggest you place the Sync 3 APIM in the truck and verify that the audio system works properly.

Looking on OEM Ford F150 Expedition F250 Sync3 to Sync4 Upgrade 8-inch to 12-inch – FORDSYNC4, there is a chart that explains all of the features that work or not. I noted that they state the ACM nust be a 2019+ model, also infering this must be an XM X40 capable ACM. You need to look at your ACM for a manufacture date and see if it is late 2019. If it is early 2019 or 2018, the ACM will not work with Sync 4 and will need to be replaced.

Did you use a wiring adapter or kit to install the Sync 4 APIM? This could be an issue…

Have you contacted them to ask why there is an issue with a product they programmed to your VIN?

Oh wow!! thanks i will give this all a go today and come back and fill you in!

Thanks!!!

so i made this change first, i saw no change unfortunately.

I then loaded your APIM AB and that still had a issue with the audio. I also seem to have more issues such as cameras etc.

i did, the kit came with a wiring harness for the swap. I will try to verify that the connections are matching the wiring requirements you provided.

Does this all sound correct so far?

If i have to pull the radio out and check the wiring harness for pin connections i will be able to get a manufacturing date on the ACM as well.

as for this, i bought the kit used technically from a friend online who bought it from them. but they do offer programing from FordSync4.

You going to learn soon why no one buys the sync 4 kits and why your friend really got rid of it.

understood.

with that being said, what exactly is the part that is giving me issues? based on your response, that sounds like a wiring issue?

i am using a ford screen, a ford apim, a for hvac controller, a ford volume controller? the parts that are from them are like plastic and brackets. and the wiring harness…

I think wiring is just a small part of it. The bigger part is the changes in the calibrations and different GWM. A Sync 4 vehicle is a totally different setup. These guys selling them want you to think it’s a simple plug and play like a Sync 3 setup but that could not be further from the truth. I hope F150Chief can find a solution for you but I think it’s beyond just simple AB changes.

i understand, well thank you. Wont lie i knew this going into this but did not think volume was a issue at all with any other kits that were installed.

I really am just looking for carplay and music. everything else can honestly be removed lol.

Did you check the wiring all the way thru from the ACM to APIM?
I expected the Sync 4 errors. This shows the issues from the older systems for Sync 4.
If you bought the kit second hand then they probably won’t help you.

Did you replace the Sync 3 in the vehicle and test the system?

I was able to get in contact with them. They said my ACM is fine and i need to program it back to OEM ASBUILT from sync 3. However they said they will want to remote in to program themselves. I will fill you back in with what i find. I figured id let them handle it and see where that gets me. They mentioned that they are aware of the volume control knob issue and have a fix.

If they cannot do the programming i will go through and check their wiring harness etc and make sure each pin goes to the correct as you stated.

UPDATE:

So i had them remote in to Forscan for me and they checked my programming. I had everything right. Didnt need to touch the ACM.

However. When i spoke with them they mentioned that i should not be using a portion of their harness. (WHICH I WAS) the ACM i have in the 19 f350 plat was supposed to use the oem harness on the truck. The “PIGGYBACK” harness they supplied and i was using was meant for truck thats are needing the ACM swapped.

But i would like to thank you all for the help!

I can confirm everything is working.

Thanks

That figures. Well, glad you got it straightened out. Thanks for the update.
