Park aid fault

I was messing with getting the oem 360 cameras installed on my 2020 Explorer. I installed the IPMB

When I reinstalled the RPAM (Rear Parking Aid Module) back, I now get a park aid fault error code U0159 “Lost communication with parking aid control module” A in the IPC

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Unknown

Install Type: OEM Replacement

Old SYNC Version: 3.4.23188

New SYNC Version: 3.4.23188

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
U0159 Lost communication with park assist module A

Update Method: Official Ford

If you have an IPMB do you need the RPAM?

There is no such module(RPAM) on a 2020 Explorer.

U0159 Lost communication with park assist module A
PAM
Clear all DTC’s, then use FORScan to reset the IPC.

I guess it’s listed as the PAM but the module is called the “Rear Park Aid Module” in my car at least that’s what’s printed on the module.

Reset the IPC as in reboot it?

Or load factory as built?

You could do both, wouldn’t hurt. The IPC just has issues talking to the PAM. When you added the IPMB did you make any changes to the IPC or BCM?

My process was the following:

  • Disconnect battery
  • Install IPMB (With the wiring diagrams from Ford directly)
  • Reconnect battery
  • Have Forscan scan with a new profile to find the IPMB (The IPMB shows up on Forscan but listed under the LOG page as “IPMB has no DTC function”

I attempted to run the service functions, and they all started, then immediately stop and said “Service function has been interrupted.”

Ill attach some pictures of my computer screen with Forscan.

These are the wiring diagrams im going off to wire up the IPMB from the PAM.

For connector C3676A - Im not sure exactly where or how these wires connect.

DMP43 (BK) Camera - Rear park assist D
VMP44 (VT-GY) Camera - Rear park assist #Digital video out - (LVDS-)
VMP43 (GN-BN) Ctrl Mod. - Image Processing B #Video out +

I cant find any info for where they connect via wiring.

I only made changes when the IPMB was wires up to the IPC no other module.

Connects to the APIM where the rear camera is not. Rear camera moves to IPMB.

The IPMB talks directly to the BCM via CANBUS. You have that done because you can see the module in FORScan. You need the BCM to know there is an IPMB. What vehicle did the IPMB come from? VIN?
You cannot run a camera calibration until everything talks.

You’re not gonna be able to calibrate them unless you have the $10k mats from Ford for it. There is a whole procedure for doing this that is very involved, 9 pages worth. So while Forscan can put you in calibration mode there is more to it.

Ah ok, thanks for that PDF. So pins 14 and 15 change from just the rearview camera to the IPMB when installed?

Gotcha, I figured I can’t calibrate it until everything is talking. I am gonna see if I can get the original VIN from the Ebay seller.

Dang thats a bit much.

Yup, Better off just paying Ford the $200 to do it. Guessing that’s what they planned. Autel has the mats for $2000 if you have a hole in your pocket.

paying Ford $200 to calibrate it?

The Ipmb is from an explorer but I don’t have the vin unfortunately

The cameras might be close to position since the IPMB is from a similar vehicle but won’t be perfect. If you have not done so, you will need to run a Local Interconnect for the IPMB once you have everything connected.

If I can even get that far… still need to work on getting everything hooked up via the Ipmb

That is for the older system? In the newer vehicles, you just have to drive around in a parking lot with good painted lines. No need for a calibration mat.
