Plugging in 2023 Mustang Sync 3 APIM / Screen into 2015 Navigator?

Hi,

I buy used parts to resell and have my own 2015 Navigator that I upgraded to Sync 3. Sometimes I find 2017-2019 Fusion / MKZ / Focus Sync 3 systems to resell and I like to test them on my Navigator to make sure it works. I’ve always been able to plug them in and they will immediately turn on.

I pulled a Sync 3 (I’m almost positive) screen / APIM from a crashed 2023 Mustang Convertible. Screen KR3T-18B955-SA and APIM LR3T-14G370-BBU. I plugged it without connecting the USB into my 2015 Navigator and absolutely nothing. I’d be surprised if the unit was bad but I suppose it’s not out of the question. Shouldn’t it still turn on? Or will it not work because it’s made after 2020? I’ve never found a used Sync 3 screen / apim made after 2020 before. I was trying to see if this Mustang Sync 3 has Navigation as well.

Thanks

EDIT: I found another thread of someone trying to do the same thing. They were able to bench test a 2023 APIM and when they went to install on their 2015, it wouldn’t do anything and apparently that is because it needs 2020 or earlier firmware? Sounds right if anyone wants to confirm that it’s true I cannot test a 2023 APIM / Screen in my 2015.

Remove pins 53/54 from the APIM connector plug on the vehicle and try it.

Thanks, but seems like a lot of work and risking breaking the connector just to test. Seems unlikely a 2023 APIM / screen would be bad . I was just basically was looking for confirmation that 2020+ APIM/Screen use different protocols or something to turn on which seems to be the case.
