It won’t matter if it has PTBA or not. It’s just an AB setting to turn that off or on so technically they all have it. LOL.
I got an IPMB from a 2021 Expedition with 360 Camera and PTBA.
I will update when I try to connect it. To test, I will probably try to connect just my rear camera to it because that is the only camera I have.
THE IPMB WORKS!
Nice, Looks like you will be installing 3 more cameras here soon.
I need to get shielded wire for all of the cameras. I need to figure out what cameras to get.
The cameras must have a wide 180 degree angle. The front and rear cameras must be OEM because they use LIN bus. The cameras will communicate their part number and other information to the IPMB. The side mirror cameras can be anything because they don’t use LIN bus.
Now, what front and rear cameras do I get? MKX/Nautilus? Expedition? F-150? Edge (front camera)? Cameras from another vehicle?
I would try and go Ford. Are you going to have Ford align the cameras when you are done?
Probably not. Would the dealerships have any idea what to do? The Ford Edge never had any 360 camera system from the factory, only a front 180 camera, so I don’t think a 360 camera alignment procedure even exists. For the camera alignment, hopefully I can use FORScan (or maybe UCDS), but I don’t think there is a camera alignment procedure available. If that does not work, I can try use FDRS with Snap On J2534 adapter. I can also try third party diagnostic tools such as Autel or Launch, but those may get pricey. For the calibration pattern, I can try to print it on a plotter. When trying to align the cameras, I will have to use a different vehicle profile, such as an F-150, MKX/Nautilus, Expedition, etc. because those vehicles all have 360 camera alignment procedures.
An update on my progress:
I think almost everything is working. For the camera button, I can’t get the original camera button in the vehicle to work. However, this is fixed by directly wiring the camera button to the IPMB. All camera displays are being properly cycled through. When I shift to drive/reverse, the camera works as expected. Even the camera zoom button is working!
Now, onto the issues. I don’t have the park aid display working yet, but that isn’t important right now. I can’t seem to change the vehicle icon from an Expedition to any other vehicle. I tried changing the AsBuilt, but I got an incompatible configuration error. Hopefully I can use the MKX/Nautilus image, or something more similar to the Edge. This vehicle icon is only a small and unimportant issue.
The main problem is the camera LIN bus. I only have the BCM LIN calibration procedure, but I do not have the IPMB LIN calibration procedure. If I disconnect the camera LIN bus from the vehicle, the camera still seems to work. If I connect the camera LIN bus to the IPMB, ̶i̶t̶ ̶s̶e̶e̶m̶s̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶n̶o̶ ̶e̶f̶f̶e̶c̶t̶.̶ ̶ ̶I̶ ̶d̶o̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶I̶P̶M̶B̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶a̶b̶l̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶m̶u̶n̶i̶c̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶e̶r̶a̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶L̶I̶N̶ ̶b̶u̶s̶.̶ ̶H̶o̶w̶ ̶d̶o̶ ̶I̶ ̶f̶i̶x̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶v̶e̶h̶i̶c̶l̶e̶ ̶s̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶I̶P̶M̶B̶,̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶B̶C̶M̶,̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶c̶o̶n̶t̶r̶o̶l̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶e̶r̶a̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶L̶I̶N̶ ̶b̶u̶s̶?̶
How can I get the IPMB LIN new module procedure to appear in FORScan? Should I try to use a different vehicle profile?
I have disabled the BCM RVC LIN Slave, because the camera’s LIN bus is no longer connected. This fixes the BCM DTC that there is an issue with the rear view camera communication.
̶I̶ ̶s̶t̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶d̶o̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶a̶n̶y̶ ̶L̶I̶N̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶m̶u̶n̶i̶c̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶b̶e̶t̶w̶e̶e̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶e̶r̶a̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶I̶P̶M̶B̶.̶ I don’t have the option for IPMB LIN new module calibration.
I have almost everything working. All of the camera views are working correctly. The park aid display is working. There are 2 sets of reverse line grids. One is static, and it is appearing on both the 360 view and the reverse view. The second reverse line grid is dynamic, and it is appearing on top, only in the reverse view. I am thinking that once the correct camera is installed, this issue may go away.
There is a connection for sure in the wire diagrams.
Ok, I just did some more testing. With the vehicle in reverse, if I disconnect the camera LIN circuit between the rear camera and the IPMB, then the dynamic guide lines still work for about a second. Once the IPMB realizes that it has lost communication with the rear camera LIN, the entire camera display changes. The dynamic guide lines disappear. The overhead park aid display from the IPMB disappears. The rear camera image is slightly zoomed out. And finally, the rear 360 camera is black.
I still can’t figure out how to get the IPMB LIN new module service function. I think these double guidelines can be fixed by installing a new camera and doing the LIN calibration.
I did even more testing. With the vehicle in reverse, I disconnected the rear camera from the IPMB. The rear view camera screen went blue, and the static guide lines disappeared, but the dynamic guide lines remained. If I disconnect the IPMB video from the APIM, then everything is gone, except for the zoom button. My conclusion is that the static guide lines are being generated by the reverse camera, and the dynamic guide lines are being generated by the IPMB.
I have ordered a new rear camera for an Expedition. It should arrive soon. Hopefully this new camera will fix the double guidelines issue, and will allow a rear 180 view.
nice, You gain anything else by doing that?
I don’t think I gained anything else new other than the image.
But there is a slight problem with the new firmware. There seems to be a “glitch” as you can see in the photos. This “glitch” will appear the first time you view the cameras. If you cycle through the cameras using the camera button, the “glitch” will go away. The “glitch” will not return until the next ignition key cycle.
I need to check over the AsBuilt data. There was an incompatible configuration on something. There is a slight difference in AsBuilt data between the Expedition IPMB and CN IPMB.
Not sure what the fix for the “glitch” will be. Maybe I can try to reflash the CN firmware again. Maybe replacing the reverse camera will fix it. Maybe I can try more IPMB firmware from F-150 or MKX/Nautilus.
So, if anyone knows any Ford / Lincoln vehicles with a non coax IPMB, that would be helpful. I only know of 2015-2019 F-150; 2016-2023 MKX/Nautilus; 2018-2021 Expedition; 2019-? Ford Edge CN;
Is it possible to get the stacked vertical display?
