I was wondering if anyone knew if the newer seat controls that are in 2016+ Explorers would be compatible with a ford Taurus. I know that the pre 2015 Explorers share the same seat controls (and CEGA network) as the Taurus, but I wasn’t for certain if the seat controls were tied into the newer communication protocol or not. I’m aware the harness connection for the controls are different, but I knew the Explorers got the upgrade and thought there was a chance the Taurus could as well. I considered (heard somewhere that the seats were the same, not 100% sure though) swapping the whole seat from an explorer, and putting the Taurus seat covers on.
The controls just interact with the motors on the seat.
I think your problem is going to be if the new controls are compatible with the existing motors.
Good point, I could go check part numbers I suppose. I also have the massaging seats, I’m pretty sure that the massage module is the same, but I’m not as sure about the communication with the vehicle.
Edit: Googled the part numbers, it appears that both vehicles share the same seat adjuster motor, so I in theory, as long as the harness pins are the same, the seat controls should work. As for the massage, I’m not sure. Looks like the Taurus has a separate module for the massage button while it’s combined on the newer style.
Usually there is not a physical button for it. It is controlled through the FCIM screen as a Sync function over Canbus. Based on your pic there are physical heated seat buttons also if I am seeing that right.
There’s a button on the newer seat modules that pulls up the menu, then you can either control it with the arrows or the module (at least on the sync 4 fords with multi couture) pretty sure those buttons are for memory on the Taurus.
