Sync 3 MY20 BLACK SCREEN!

Hello, sorry for the language, but I’m from Eastern Europe and I use google translate.
A close person of mine brought a 2021 Ford Bronco from America and we decided to add maps of Europe to the navigation.
SYNC 3 Software Version 3.4 Build 21194
I made a diagnostic flash drive.
I decided the space was small and deleted GRACENOTES and installed a smaller voice pack via the Cyanlabs app
I prepared a flash drive with European maps and a MAP License
1U5T-14G421-BHK
1U5T-14G424-BM

I installed them without problem, but the maps of Europe did not appear on the display….
I decided it needed more space and decided to add MAP 1U5T-14G421-BBx 485Mb packs. For this purpose, I decided to free up some more space and made a flash drive for downgrading the version.

As a result after reboot the SYNC screen remained black, the radio works but the display shows nothing….
The version is currently 3.3.19052

Hello.

Since your unit is MY20, keep MY20 protection active at all times.

First of all, changing regions is not supported by Cyanlabs, and that’s what you are trying to do. Having said that, keep this thread in mind → Tutorial: Current EU Maps Installation on US Imported Vehicles

You put yourself in a really bad situation: you installed EU MAPS on a NA APIM (which is smaller than a EU APIM, 32 vs 64 GB respectively) without removing the NA MAPS, thus making the unit run out of space.

What’s worse, is that the unit currently have the small voice package installed and 3.3, both methods to make more space available, so we cannot remove any more packages from the unit.

Finally, with only 1.5 GB you may not be able to go back to 3.4 either…

So, you see your dilema, right?:

  • You have a MY20 APIM which “can’t be reformatted”
  • You already made space on the unit and you installed EU maps
  • Your current unit has 1.5 GB free, which may be inadequate for installing packages.

It’s also not good that you started doing stuff before researching, because from the link I’ve sent before it’s mentioned that changing regions requires a reformat, something that can’t be done on MY20 units.

Why is the screen black?, hard to say.
Do you have forscan? (also needed for changing regions).

If so, see what theme is configured. Maybe that’s why it’s black.
Check for reference values here → Sync 3 APIM Database - CyanLabs - Visual Design Variants (VDV) Sync Versions 3.0 Thru 3.4

Also, try a soft reset on the APIM and from forscan.

Finally, should you be able to recover from the black screen, there’s an option you may want to research. FMODs recently released a universal reformat tool that works on MY20 units, for that you need to jailbreak the unit first… Then you could reformat it with a cut down maps version… You will need to research on this, since as I previously said, Cyanlabs does not support changing regions…

Another option for you is to jailbreak the unit and install the map removal tool from FMODS to delete the NA maps without reformatting the unit, then autoinstalling the EU maps…

But for your current scenario, I do not know if any of those will work because you only have 1.5 GB free on the APIM
