I upgraded my Ford Mondeo Mk5 from Sync 2 to Sync 3 by replacing the APIM module. The unit I installed comes from a Ford Kuga, and I’m currently facing two issues:
FM station logos are not displayed, while DAB station logos work correctly and show without any issues.
The parking sensor system is not working as expected. Previously, with Sync 2, all 12 sensors functioned properly. Now, only 4 front and 4 rear sensors are active.
The car is equipped with a Sony audio system and an external amplifier.
Side Park Aid (SPA) Flank Guard (FG), Front Park Aid (FPA), Rear Park Aid (RPA)

4=FG Disabled, FPA Enabled, RPA Enabled
5=FG Disabled, FPA Enabled, RPA Disabled

Everything else looks to be set correctly compared to other vehicles with 12 sensors that I know do work. These vehicles however, do have the -BL version of the PAM, not -BF. I am not sure if this is a factor. They all have the -BL firmware.
When I upgraded to Sync 3 way back, I experimented with perpendicular parking on my 2015 F-150 Platinum and got that to work, however, never got flank guard to function, although I only have 8 sensors, I didn’t even get the error messages I was missing the hardware. This does kind of point to a hardware difference as you have suggested.
If I change it from 4 to 0, unfortunately nothing changes. I think I’ll start looking for a PAM module from a Mondeo that originally came with Sync 3 installed. I also have the option to check how it looks in a friend’s car, because he also upgraded from Sync 2 to Sync 3 and apparently it works. I’ll check the module version, if it’s different from mine, then I’ll have a clear answer.
