TCU Explorer EU error GPS location

Hi,
I brought Explorer 2021 3.3 hybrid to Europe. To be able to use the FordPass function, I replaced the TCU with the European KT1T-14G087-ES. I entered all the settings and activated the vehicle from the application. Now everything works properly, the TCU module is logged into the network, I can see the fuel level and I can open / close and start the engine. The only problem is locating the car. It still tells me where I last logged into the US network. in block 754-10-01 I entered the location of PL
What did I set wrong? is there a coding error somewhere?

You need to set the region and country codes.

I have the region set to Poland in line 754-10-01 504C. I also changed the lines to 754-01-01 xx38 xxxx xxxx with no effect. I tried doing a reset, but that didn’t help.

You will need to re-activate the unit after setting the region.

I have my region and country set correctly. Resetting didn’t help. But it looks like I have something set wrong. According to the application, the last time it synchronized positions was September 17, 2021.

Do you have the original TCU asbuilt from the vehicle?

I got a brand new TCU from a Ford dealer

The asbuilt from the NA TCU you removed…

it is from original US TCU
1FM5K8FW6MNA11602_TCU_Explorer oryg.abt (1,9 KB)

Your VIN lookup on Ford ETIS shows that this vehicle is:
1FM5K8FW6MNA11602
Explorer 2020-, 1.6L SOHC EFI NA I4 GAS*MAZDA, Carbonized Gray/Asher Gray…
But searching the VIN and finding the vehicle for sale indicates it is a 3.3L V6 FI DOHC 24V NF4.

I can see that the firmware from the original TCU is apparently newer than what you have now with the EU TCU and is different. The asbuilt lines do not line up, and this is due to the TCU firmware versions.
This is the original TCU:

F10A>LB5T-14G144-SH
F110>DSLB5T-14G087-AJ
F111>LB5T-14G145-SA
F113>LB5T-14G087-SH
F16B>14G643
F188>LB5T-14G139-SH
F18C>UC1U02TX

The LB5T TCU has additional functions for the EV vehicles especially. The KT1T firmware is older, but I think the asbuilt block that matters might be the same.
Look at 754-07-06
On your EU TCU, the value is 0000 68.
The value on the original NA TCU is 1112 8B.
In this line, it sets the GPS Source parameter. (I am not sure which byte this is, but the parameter options are:
GNSS Source: 0=TCU GNSS, 1=Other.
I don’t know if this is the answer, but you could try it. You will likely need to reset the TCU after making the change.

I have seen other instances of this, coincidently with Explorer vehicles. I do not know what causes this, other than maybe the vehicle is still captured by the other TCU registration with Ford. I would suggest upgrading the firmware in the new EU TCU. I do not know if this will fix the issue.

Thanks, I’ll check and let you know.
