I subsequently installed the TCU and everything went well and I was able to activate it, but it shows that there is no field strength. With the exception of antennas 1, it also displays a factory error, but they said that it should work regardless. Can someone help with this?
What do you mean by “field strength” ?
The purple and tan connectors on the TCU are for the 4G cell antennas, not the WiFi hot spot, if the TCU activated you connected to a cell tower.
Just because you’ve enabled the hot spot doesn’t mean you have a working carrier data plan for your VIN or that the TCU country is one that Ford has a carrier agreement with.
What you see in the upper right corner when it is on, when it is off, the hotspot shows the same thing. That there is no field strength 0. This is specifically a phone that the TCU is limited to only for cars so what can it do.
That implies either no data plan or no carrier that Ford has an agreement with in the area the vehicle is located in.
Its the same as taking a cell phone into another country where it doesn’t have cell service that it can connect to. (eg a bit like bringing a cell phone with an Orange EU only sim into the US).
rather, I don’t have a data package because when I open the page where I can buy it, I have to enter the VIN and it says an error.
You have to buy it using the VIN of the donor that the TCU came from.
Ford is the only one that can update the carrier database that matches VIN to IMEI, its why dealers have to order replacement TCUs by VIN.
There is something different here because I was able to register for the hotspot on Vodafone’s website. Can someone send me the TCU settings?
I had what was wrong. The region had to be set to a different one, but I don’t understand because there is a Vodafone network here as well and for some reason it didn’t allow it, I think it’s more of a wake-up call because I was able to do everything normally on it anyway.
Cell carrier APN and frequency band can change by country as well as by region.
Should I set something else or what can be done with it?
If your hot spot is now working I’d leave it be.
There are country/region identifiers in both the TCU and the APIM.
Personal guess here after playing with a few TCUs is that the FordPass functionality runs across 4G spectrum as the H series TCUs were 4G (in the US for AT&T 850mHz band 5) while the Hot Spot data goes over 4G LTE (in the US for AT&T 1900mHz band 2).
I could be wrong, but we’d need the actual IC/software info for what’s actually running in the TCU.
Yesterday I managed to start the hotspot. He also indicated that LTE only had to be registered on Vodafone’s website and the region changed. But since this was yesterday, vodafon had to confirm the account, but now the account is active and they gave me data for 1 year.
However, the closing and opening function does not work
It’s still not good because if I set the region, the module restarts and it’s fine, but if I stop the car and restart it, nothing happens again. It’s like you forgot your settings
