Updating APIM Firmware (Calibration Files)

Elementary my dear Chief! Thanks for the links…i 'll see same model at Amazon.fr (ship from us cost 10euro…znd antenna cosy 10 euro…)

Thanks you à lot!

Thanks for the info F150 chief. The only feature I’m trying to gain by doing this is access to silent mode. Currently I do this by connecting forscan and modifying the as built on the bcm. It is a pain to turn it off and on, since a laptop is required. Do you know if this will work with my earlier 18’ APIM with newer firmware? I guess I could try it and if it doesn’t work, I can return back to stock firmware. I also tried enabling an option to control this on my 8" IPC, but the option never showed up. That’s why I’m looking for a way to control it with the APIM.

One last question… you mentioned that my current apim firmware is non nav. But, the unit has built in navigation. Is the firmware versions you suggested still applicable in my case?

Thanks again

The calibration file shown in the pic is for NON_NAV APIM’s. The NAV APIM should have the 1U5T-14G375-DA file.

If you are referring to “dark mode” or “police mode”, this is controlled by a button on the headliner console above. I have not seen the button in the APIM interface work, although it does highlight, but I have a 2015 F-150 with the earlier BCM. Since you have a later BCM. I would think this would be functional. You will need the MY18.5+ firmware (-Ex version) and Sync 3.4 to make that functional as far as I can tell.

3.2/3.3 APIM NAV & NON-NAV Unit Firmware (2018.5 MY)
Part number: JS7T-14G371-KED
Calibration level: JS7T-14G371-KHG
Hardware Number: HS7T-14G380-BB
Secondary Boot Loader: GBST-14G376-AA
Strategy (F188): 1U5T-14G374-EH (or later)
Calibration (F124): 1U5T-14G375-DA
ECU Configuration/Sound Profiles (F10A): GB5T-14G379-AA
ECU Configuration/Illumination Strategy (F16B): 5U5T-14G379-BA

Correct, I am trying to enable “police mode”, now referred to BCM Silent mode 5 . This takes it further than the overhead button can do, causing all lights to stay off when the doors open. I.E. No brake light illumination when doors opened. There are times when I take the kids to the drive in or camp out on the beach where it is super annoying when the truck lights up like a Christmas tree.

I am taking a pause reading over the version recommended for non nav / nav. I bought my vehicle new, with factory navigation. To my knowledge, the firmware has never been flashed (I’ve never had work done to the radio by the dealer). I have only performed the Sync 3.4 upgrade using the cyanlabs tool.

To double check, I downloaded the latest forscan beta and took a screenshot of my current version. With this discrepancy, do you recommend that I follow the nonnav or nav recomendation?

My stock APIM for 2018 US F-150 that came with built in navigation:
APIM Current

If it works and came from the factory that way, there is no harm leaving it as is, but if you are going to upgrade to MY18.5+ firmware you should change it to that firmware. The firmware from the factory was also only meant for Sync 3.0, not Sync 3.4.

OK, I will try changing it to the MY18.5+firmware (-Ex version) you listed when I get some courage. You bring up another interesting point. The APIM silent mode option could just mean the same as the overhead button. It may not mean police mode.

I can enable the option on demand using a laptop and editing the BCM asbuilt. The only reason I am researching this is that it would be much simpler to toggle using an on screen option.

Thanks for all your help.

I was able to enable Silent Mode on my 2015 F-150 Platinum via the Sync screen. You will need the -E* firmware and enable the feature in the Sync asbuilt.

Here are the details:
There is another feature called “Silent mode” that appeared in Sync 3.4 earlier. This incorporates the features of BCM Silent Mode 5. I never could get this to work on my 2015 F-150 Platinum thru Sync, but with the MY18.5 -E* firmware upgrade it appears to be functional. This requires no updates to the BCM.

Silent Mode Control Function (SMCF) (Controls BCM Silent Mode 5)
7D0-09-02 Xxxx-xxxx-xx–
“enable SMCF - requires 3.4 and MY18.5 -E* firmware”

Here is the feature description:
Silent Mode 5: Unlocking, locking (whether with the key fob, keyless entry, or the keypad), opening any doors, closing any doors, opening the tailgate, closing the tailgate, etc…no exterior lights come on, no interior lights (mostly) come on, and no beeps/horns sound.
Notes to Silent Mode 5:

  • When you open a door, the startup logo sequence still plays on the center Sync screen, then it shuts off. The dash screen also cycles on and stays a black screen, then turns off as well.
  • The light blue backlighting on the light buttons above the rear doors stay on, all other backlit buttons stay dark.
  • If you click a button on the keypad entry, the keypad lights up.
  • If you click the bed light button in the bed, those will come on along with the convenience lights on the mirrors.
  • The alarm button on the key fob will still flash lights and the horn, if activated.
  • Once you turn the ignition on everything will function normally.

Woah! Thank you so much for researching this! I really appreciate this.

I’m a little confused on the naming of the firmware versions. You mentioned E*. I suspect that means a wild card and anything starting with E will work. BUT, there are multiple files that get flashed and I’m not exactly sure which ones this refers to. You provided two different lists. Can you confirm the firmware that you recommend in this case? The format you used previously was easy to understand as it listed the files to use for each section in forscan.

I have an upcoming appt at the dealer to fix an unrelated CEL. Once this is resolved, I plan to proceed with upgrading the APIM firmware. I don’t want to confuse the dealer techs with any rouge codes from the upgrade.

Thanks again!

Sorry for the confusion.
MY18.5 -E* firmware would be a firmware set that would contain 1U5T-14G374-EH or later and the appropriate associated files. Try to use the latest firmware.

Hello, all. I am new to this forum but have been an active user to Fmods for some time.

I recently updated my sync 3 to the latest sync 3.4 version.

Now I would like to update my APIM; I have read through most of this thread and from what I understand, FORscan does not download the calibration files automatically.

With this being the case, could somebody provide me details of where I should download the correct files please?

I want to be absolutely confident and sure to follow the instructions and do the right thing the first time round to avoid any unwanted problems or issues when it comes to actually updating.

My current APIM part number is HB5T-14G374-CA

According to Ford, the latest calibration is version 05.04.28, calibration 1U5T-14G374-EM, release date 2022-05-21

I have the latest publicy released FORscan v2.3.49. Will this version work OR would I need to download the current 2.4.6 BETA release?

In summary, I am looking for the latest compatible APIM calibration files to update my APIM from current version HB5T-14G374-CA and I would like confirmation on which FORscan release to use.

I am in the UK and my Sync 3 is EU with build number 22200 version 3.4

Thank you in advance

FORScan will only spec the factory listed compatible files for any module.

That is the firmware number…
If this is the original APIM in the vehicle, 2016 Focus, it will be an older APIM hardware. The newest calibrations are not meant for the older APIM’s.

You will need a paid version for firmware updates. The latest is 2.4.6.
FORScan Software Version 2.4.x Releases and Information - Ford / Information - CyanLabs Official Community

You can try putting that on the APIM but although possible it may fail. But in reality, there is no benefit for you to load the new firmware since your vehicle and APIM can’t support the feature set. However, that is up to you.

To find the firmware for your vehicle and APIM version:
APIM Firmware Production Releases - Ford / Information - CyanLabs Official Community
APIM Firmware Flash Order and Region Information - Ford / Information - CyanLabs Official Community
This would be what I would recommend, based on the year of the vehicle. Again, I don’t know the version of APIM you have installed.

For EU APIM:
3.2/3.3 APIM NAV & NON-NAV Unit Firmware (Production Release, 2018.5, Late J thru K Series)
Secondary Boot Loader: GB5T-14G376-AA
Strategy (F188): 1U5T-14G374-DA (6/27/2018)
Calibration (F124): 1U5T-14G375-HA (NAV) / 1U5T-14G375-CA (NON-NAV)
ECU Configuration/Sound Profiles (F10A): GB5T-14G379-AA
ECU Configuration/Illumination Strategy (F16B): JB5T-14G379-BA (6/7/2018)

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated.

Ok, so if it only lists compatible files, how do I actually go about downloading them?

Apologies for the wrong information, but I don’t really know how to identify the right numbers then as there is so many different ones listed.
My APIM in my 206 Focus is not the original one for the car. When I bought the car it had Sync 2 and I bought a sync 3 unit and upgraded it about a year ago.

Here is most of the info I can find for my APIM; if you could let me know which numbers are what that would be a great help -

JS7T-14G371-NED, HB5T-14G374-CA, HB5T-14G375-FA, GB5T-14G379-AA, HB5T-14G379-BA, HS7T-14G380-CB, F1DT-14A073-EF, F1DT-14C094-AF, F1DT-14C095-AF ,F1DT-14C403-AC, F1DT-14F119-EC

Please let me know if the version is listed above? I have read through most of this thread but nowhere on here or a google search really identifies fully which one is the APIM version?

I found the above codes through a log profile file of forscan previously and recently saved from my car

Thank you, I do have a year’s extended licence of forscan. The latest version at 2.4.6 is BETA so I am assuming I should use that and not the publicy released latest version of 2.3.9?

Why should/would it fail if I make sure I follow all the steps?

If there is no benefit, why are so many people updating to it? I have heard the newest updates are required for Calm Screen / upcoming Fmods changes / vehicle settings etc…

Thank you for the links/info. I had a look at the links but I don’t really want to take apart half my dash just to confirm a number so I am hoping I have found it by the log file codes I posted above?

Thank you and I am so sorry in advance if I have misunderstood something obvious. I do like to believe I am relatively technically minded however when it comes to the APIM there’s hundreds of different numbers and dont really know which one I am supposed to be looking for. Hopefully I have listed it above.

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate the help here

I understand my CURRENT existing firmware is JS7T-14G371-NED ? So what is the number next to this in brackets - HS7T-14G380-CB ?

For these MY18.5 files, is there a certain order these need to be loaded into FORScan? I think i read somewhere that they need to be in a certain order.

I have attached a couple pictures of my APIM that I managed to get from the test menu earlier today

I’m sorry for being frsutrating; I just want to only make one attempt at this update and hopefully a successful one

Thank you

That is the model of the APIM, not firmware. The other number is just a Ford hardware number, not important.

All at once…see the first post in this thread.

Download the files and place them in the C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\CalibrationFiles folder. Then select them thru FORScan for each of the firmware boxes.

Also, load the latest Sync 3.4.22251 version. It has fixes for the bugs in the previous one you have loaded currently.

Hey F150Chief do you happen to have these 2 files. I have a G-Series APIM and im wanting to do the 18.5 MY upgrade, I picked this one up for super cheap otherwise i would’ve gone with a K series. 1U5T-14G374-EH.VBF, 1U5T-14G375-DA.VBF

G series can be problematic and are not recommended. It will likely brick with those files. Here are the files if you want to try…
1U5T-14G374-EH.VBF (752.1 KB)
1U5T-14G375-DA.VBF (709 Bytes)

You can try the MY18.5 Firmware:
3.2/3.3 APIM NAV & NON-NAV Unit Firmware (Production Release, 2018.5, Late J thru K Series)
Secondary Boot Loader: GB5T-14G376-AA
Strategy (F188): 1U5T-14G374-DA (6/27/2018)
Calibration (F124): 1U5T-14G375-FA (NAV/NON-NAV)
ECU Configuration/Sound Profiles (F10A): GB5T-14G379-AA
ECU Configuration/Illumination Strategy (F16B): JB5T-14G379-BA (6/7/2018)

Files:
GB5T-14G376-AA.VBF (1.9 KB)
1U5T-14G374-DA.VBF (748.2 KB)
1U5T-14G375-FA.VBF (709 Bytes)
GB5T-14G379-AA.VBF (2.6 KB)
JB5T-14G379-BA.VBF (2.3 KB)

If that does not work, then try this:
3.0 APIM NAV & NON-NAV Unit Firmware (Production Release, 2017-Pre-2018.5, H-Early J Series)
(Originally Found On 2017/Early 2018 Units That Ship with 2 USB Ports on Back)
GB5T-14G376-AA
HB5T-14G374-CA
HB5T-14G375-DA or HB5T-14G375-FA (HB5T-14G375-CA NON-NAV)
GB5T-14G379-AA
HB5T-14G379-BA

Files:
GB5T-14G379-AA.VBF (2.6 KB)
HB5T-14G374-CA.VBF (657.4 KB)
HB5T-14G375-FA.VBF (709 Bytes)
HB5T-14G379-BA.VBF (2.3 KB)
