Upgrade sync 3.4 usa to eu pl

I dont know anything about apim, i bought car 2 months ago, never got ford and sync before, previous owner in poland do upgrade for polish language, i talk with him and he said upgrade was done by “sync expert” and dont know how its done. So for now i dont know anything, only that sync is in 3.4 version 19200 compilation with polish language and voices.
I dont know what version of sync was by default facory in 2018, but probably should be 3.4 out of the box

Ok, once you can access the unit, run the other interrogator version, to see if that makes sense.
Your log is not complete, so I’m not trusting it.
What I would like to know is which model the APIM is, if the car is from 2018 it’s not MY20 and could be reformated, but since you are not the first owner of the car, does not mean the owner did something to the car before it got to you.

There are some things that you can try yo reduce the space usage on the APIM, besides installing the small voice package. You can also downgrade the unit to 3.3, since 3.3 is smaller than 3.4. That will free up some space.

But first, lets try the interrogator log once again.

Don’t worry, we will make it work somehow.

Ok, thank you for your help, as i said today car is at service so i make new log at weekend and post here

ok, new log with GB5T-14G386-AB_134244.tar

for me looks the same as AC log

This is decoded from the “Embedded Consumer Applications Part Numbers 1” DID.

It looks like the APIM does not respond to the Interrogator files. This is due to corruption or some modification. Since you only have 956MB of free space, you should downgrade the unit to Sync 3.3.19052 and install the “small voice file” (North America) which will give you plenty of free space to run the reformat utility. At this point you could run the -AC version of the Interrogator file and see if the fields populate.

The Private Sub Node #1 Serial Number is the older series, VX2F0045, which is NOT MY20+. The 2020+ units have a new serial number range.

Once the unit is downgraded to 3.3.19052, reformat the unit with:
APPS - 5U5T-14G381-EU_1634769242000.TAR.GZ
VOICE - 5U5T-14G391-AR_1633363332000.TAR.GZ

There is no point in installing the ENH_DAB file unless the ACM (radio) has been changed to EU hardware.

I check once again on ford site to upgrade sync by official way by vin and it propose to download SYNC3 v3.0.20204 :astonished: so original version is 3.0!

So what should i do first now?
Try to install small voice package to relase some free memory or just downgrade to 3.3 and then latest 3.4?

edit. im doing downgrade usb from sync3updater, its mandatory to set reformat or it can be as autoinstall? and when i will upgrade later to latest 3.4 should use autoinstall or reformat ?

Please do this, as previously stated:

So, create a downgrade USB (3.4 → 3.3, normal autoinstall)
Then create a small voice package USB
Then, try running the -AC interrogator to see if the log is better formed
After that, create a new 3.3 → 3.4 upgrade USB with the described packages, forcing reformat as method.
Then, try running the -AD interrogator log.

i made downgrade USB with autoinstall, but dont work :frowning:
i insert usb, ignition on, and sync says updating system software… and nothing happened :frowning: waiting about 70-80 mins - maybe have shitty usb, but log works, now makeing new usb

how long it should took?

edit: as i said before sync3updater dont format usb, now tested on few usb on windows 11, none of them was formatted, all was in fat32 and ntfs, maybe this wass a issue its mandatory to format exfat ?

Yes, it should be exfat.

If downgrading does not work, try installing the small voice package first, then downgrading.

If you have any log for the USB creation, please post it.
Faulty / cheap USB drives could be an issue.

ok, i format all to extaf,
usb1 - with led to see if working - after plugged tha same updating system software… but after about minute, led stop blink so do nothing, an after 15 minut i unplugged

usb2 - small voices - dont install anything

usb3 - log - dont install anything, no logfile

i try to open and close car, ignition on and off but for now cant install anything, sync working bot not upgraded or downgraded

Ok, here’s a potential issue:

Model: Generic USB Flash Disk USB Device

That and “a potato” are the same thing.
So to rule things out, get a quality branded USB pendrive, not a disk or sd card.

A unit that does not want to process files may also be related to an unhealthy APIM, or that the unit does not have enough free space to process the files.

But lets go a step at a time.

Ok, so i need to buy a pendrive
Edit: meanwhile maybe do master reset, maybe free some memory after not finished installations?

Master reset does not remove installation data, but customized settings. You can try, but won’t free up space.

ok, i find old kingston and make small voice and log all completed without problems

      <d2p1:InstallationLog/>

now free 2.6G on /fs/images, but wondering why “/fs/Nuance/” is only 244M and free only 940K on prev logs was total=“1.9G” available=“72M” is it important? may i start downgrade ?

Remember that the goal here is to have enough free space in order to proceed with the instructed steps. It does not really matter what’s on the unit.

So continue with the steps.

i successfull downgraded to 3.3.19052, and start reformat to latest.
but when i install reformat it shows to plug out usb so i do it, after restart sync i have screen with insert usb stick and nothing happen, how to reboot or what to do? its not seein usb anymore :frowning:

Post an image of the screen you are seeing.
Are you following the tutorials?
Do you have another USB connected to the car?

Ok, finally i did it after 2 weeks of preparation
Conclusion: its not worth

Proces of upgrade is very easy but not at first time, when you change region and have some limitations of apim.
Today downgrade and install latest with reformat take about 15min! But as always problems with usb and i need format again usb and make again usb with latest sync, when i have screen with please insert usb, and plugged many times to start reformat. Tutorial for this should say do not remove usb when screen say remove usb before reformat!

Thank you @SaNdMaN and @F150Chief for help and patience for me.

Edit. After reformat and master reset it only remove my phone, but language and radio stations was not touched - strange.

Glad everything went ok!, I told you we would make it work.

But let me comment on some things:

It does, in the reformat process:

That’s because those settings are not stored on the APIM, but in other module… I do not remember if it’s on the ACM…

Anyways, glad it worked.
Enjoy the results of hard work.

Take care.
