Upgrade to MY20+ or Overclock

I saw on Fmods there was overclocking available for pre my20 apims. I was planning on upgrading my apim anyways since my vehicle doesn’t have nav. What I was wondering is if I would be better of purchasing a my20 apim (aware is harder to perform updates on) or get a pre my20 and overlock for same performance. Vehicle currently has sync 3, want to upgrade to 3.4. Also want to install the bigger 8.46” screen.

If you are going to replace the screen and APIM, I would suggest you use a Pre-MY20 APIM. It will be much easier to program and update the NAV. (Unless you JB the unit thru the FMods method.)

Well it seams like in my case anyway, I’d sort of end up wanting to jailbreak either way, whether I overclock or go with a my20+. On a side note, do you have any information about the legitimacy of the 8.46” screen swaps with sync 3? I’ve seen kits and heard of people doing it, but the screens usually appear to be non genuine ford parts.

Ford is 8 inch. I have seen reference to 8.5 inch sceens but as far as I know this would not be a Ford part. Ford 8 inch screens are readily available on eBay and the like.

I think he’s referring to the Sync 4 8.46" screens that some sites are selling like this one.

Specialized conversion. First, I’ve seen of these screens…so looks like a bare Sync 4 screen, likely a service replacement item, with a bracket. I could see if you were to replace a screen in say a 2020 or earlier F-150/Explorer/Expedition and their Lincoln brethren you will gain nothing unless you were to modify the FCIM bezel. Other vehicles likely the same. For vehicles with the stand-alone screens on the dash this looks feasible. Probably really aimed at that market…?
