2016 Ford Flex - Used APIM Information

Hello, New to the forum and looking to utilize the Syn3 Updater tool to fix my sync 3 issue.

I bought my 2016 Ford Flex used and used the Ford Updater to bring it up to SYNC 3 Version 3.0 Build 20204 in hopes I would be able to use Apple Carplay. I purchased the proper USB Hub as well PN: HC3T-14F014 - BD, but Carplay still is not working.

I found on the forum that some people were able to get Carplay functionality wen updating to Sync 3.4

I have downloaded the Syn3 Updated and attempted to run the interrogator to get my APIM info to confirm the update will be safe(not MY20+ i guess), but the interrogator produces a Crash Error when I attempt to upload the XML file. Can I decipher the XML file myself? I can’t seem t find any of the part number/model numbers in the database, but may be using it incorrectly. Any help is appreciated.

Hello.

In the future, do not post multiple consecutive messages, use the edit button instead.
Having said that, please provide the XML file so I could review it.

Also, car play should be already working on 3.0, so I would not go to 3.4 right away because we had some reports of users that had to install an intermediate version for CP to work…

Sorry about that. I will edit in the future.

I changed the file name and removed VIN for uploading purposes

Thank you for the file.

Your APIM is GB5T-14G371-CFC, which is not MY20 according to our SYNC 3 APIM Hardware Database - CyanLabs . Remember that the log can’t see the screen part number, only the APIM…

Now, about your current situation, I would not go to 3.4 right away.
Your aim should be to make CP work on your current build. I’m also running 3.0.20204 and both Android Auto and Car Play work.

I’m saying this because if your issue is because Ford made you bypass an interim version that enables CP and AA, there’s a chance that going to 3.4 won’t fix it and you would be stuck.

Review the following thread, specially this message → 2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #10 by SaNdMaN …

You could try CP while being on 2.2.17xxx as well…

Stupid question but it still happens, Are you using a quality apple USB cable for carplay? It does not work wirelessly for Sync 3.

Yes, I have used Apple Brand Cords and also tried AA with an Android that I have(also with premium cables) Can connect to the phones, but no CP or AA

I am trying to post a full write up of my process, but it says new users can only post 1 embedded item and only 1 link at a time. Rather than make multiple posts, can you enable that functionality??

I’ve made a change, can you try again?.
Thanks.

Ok, excellent input. I am following the instructions on the previous thread. Here is a breakdown of my steps. Please let me know if I am missing anything or out of order. Information provided by SaNdMaN and F150Chief in the previous post here 2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #10 by SaNdMaN

I am starting with a USB Drive that was prepared using the Syn3 updated to go to 3.4, BUT I deleted all files and contents. So, starting with an empty USB(32GB Sandisk Ultra 3.0)

  1. Download this file→ HN1T-14G381-SA - SYNC 3 APIM Software (IVSU) Database - CyanLabs , which is 2.2.17011

  2. Download this file→ autoinstall 17011.txt and rename to autoinstall.lst

  3. Add both files to the USB. File from step1(without extracting) inside of a SyncMyRide folder. File created in Step2 outside of folder. See images below.

  4. Plug USB into Car and let it update. Unplug USB and bring it back to computer. Delete the contents of the USB. Next I will repeat the process with new files.

  5. Download this file → JR3T-14G381-AX - SYNC 3 APIM Software (IVSU) Database - CyanLabs , which is 3.0.20204 (my current build)

  6. Download this file→ autoinstall 20204.txt and rename to autoinstall.lst

  7. Add both files to the USB. File from step5(without extracting) inside of a SyncMyRide folder. File created in Step6 outside of folder. See images below.

  8. Plug USB into Car and let it update. Take out USB when Installation Complete.

  9. Test CP functionality.

Do I need to do anything after this? I see F150Chief mentioned the following in the previous thread. Does this apply to me?

As far as the rest of the files for 3.0.20204, use this autoinstall.lst file to fully update the APIM.
autoinstall.lst (576 Bytes)

Thankyou for your help!

That looks good.

Only thing I would do is testing CP or AA functionality while being on 2.2., so after STEP 4 is complete and the “new” Sync3 version 2.2 is installed.

Going back and forth is quite easy as you can see…

Worked Great. I did test CP functionality after “updating” to 2.2.17011 and it worked great. This morning I updated back to 3.0.20204 and CP is working great. Now that I can use CP, I feel like I don’t have a need to upgrade to 3.4, but who know if my mind will change in the future. The only real benefit I see is the Map update, but with CP I am good there.

I can’t thank you guys enough for all your help!

FYI this issue is now fixed in the new version of Syn3Updater but it won’t be able to report size details still.
