2017 Escape sync 1 to sync3 uprgade issues

2017 Escape came with sync 1. I upgraded everything with a complete kit from OEM upgrades. Everything is working but I have 2 problems the first being that every time I start the car i get “911 assist is not operational. Please visit your dealer for service” I have had OEM upgrades do a remote login with forscan and they said it was fixed but it didnt work.
I went to the Ford dealership and was told thaty cant really do anything since the vin which is tied into everything else in the can shows I have sync 1. I asked about using another vin that was close to what i have in features but was told having 2 different vins could be a problem during service visits and I risk damage to the new APIM.

The other issue was only that when I press the phone button on the steering wheel with sync 1 I would get a voice telling me to make a selection or something and now I no longer have that voice.

I was told by OEM Upgrades that I might need to change out the ACU to a sync 3 version but then I was reading on the net that I dont need to change the ACU and using the original was OK.

SO in the end all I would like is for the 911 assist error to go away…dont care if its on or off just want it gone and the other is that it would be nice to hear the voice prompt again.

**I dont know what my old Synce version was. I have the small 4 in screen (no touch)

SYNC Region: USA West Coast

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: 2017

Install Type: Retrofit

Old SYNC Version: Not Sure

New SYNC Version: 3.4

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
"911 assist is not operational. Please visit your dealer for service

**Update Method:**OEM kit from OEM upgrades

First off why is the seller not able to help you with this?

This is becuse the RCM needs to have the 911 assist signal turned on becuse the APIM is missing it. Forscan can do this for you.

The seller should be able to give you an AB setting and this should fix it. You dont need a new ACM they just need to figure out what they are doing and quit trying to milk you for more money.

Don’t goto Ford, they are parts suffers and dont have the time to troubleshoot a customer retrofit. They also do not support these kinds of updates and their websites say it.

Thanks for responding so fast…this has been a real pain….ill go down your list of questions.

Getting a tech from OEM upgrades was hard…no phone number only email and the time difference made it tough. Finally got someone to remote trouble shoot the other night. I was told it was fixed and he asked me to turn the car off and on to see if it worked which it didnt.

He tried a few other things but still nothing. The radio would go into a save battery mode and I think its because its the original battery and maybe its time to change??? Anyhow I had to keep starting the car every 4 or so min. Could that of screwed up the programing if I started to during anything he was doing?

He also tried to fix the voice thing but nothing.

I went to the dealership just to see if I could get any additional info.

Ive used forscan on my car so Im familiar with it and if its not hard then I could do the program myself but I cant get any info on what i need to change,

This should help you get the ECP fixed in the RCM. Find the right setting use Forscan to change it.

Yes it is going into battery save mode either becuse the battery is low or you need to reset the BMS. You should always use a battery tender when messing with AB or Calibrations unless you like bricking modules. Remember the Ground terminal does not go on the negative battery terminal when charging. It needs to connect to a body hard point so the sensor can measure the charging activity.

I used my battery charger which has trickle charge feature but I still had the same problem. Im aware of the neg to the body but thank you.

I have the as built description pulled up off of the vin number and do see 737-02-01 c76a cf33 1084 Am i correct that I need to change the “c” to one of the values showing in the screen shot you sent?

Which value to i use? Did you say I can find thins in the RCM module?

Can I make the change while the car is running so the radio doesnt try and shut down?

Thank you….you have helped me more in the past few min then i have been able to get in the last 4 days

I video recorded the changes OEM upgrades tech do….He changed c76a to 476a.

Do I want ECP, RSPDIP, RSPDIC, PRDS to all on which means I change the “4” to “F” ?

I made the changes to 737-02-01
I changed the 4 back to a C but Im still getting the same alert. Any ideas?

Hey Bill,

Do you any other ideas as to what the problem can be?

:warning: @AAKIRAA please, chill… you have posted (spammed) 4 consecutive messages… you are basically talking to yourself… I’ve merged all your messages…

Just wait, this is basically a free support community, but people have real lives and also live in different timezones…

Please do not bump the thread again, if you are in a hurry for support then you should head to your local service center and pay for their service.

Post your APIM and RCM AB please.

In addition to what Sandman said I personally do not like helping 3rd party companies with their support.

I wasnt trying to be a pain, you and me were chatting then you disappeared and being new here I didnt know how things worked. Im thankful for your help and thought this was a place where we all try and help each other. Im very hands on and I like to learn and this situation makes me want to know more.

I did more research and think I might of found out something. If you arent interested in helping anymore just let me know Ill understand.

What do you know about the TCU module? From what I was reading sync 1 didnt have that but sync 3 does. One of the functions of the TCU module is 911 assist. Could it be that the APIM is looking for the TCU module and throws up the on screen alert because it cant find it?

TCU does not do 911 assist in the US. The Newer Sync 4 systems are a different story.

Darn I really thought I had figured it out…OK back to the drawing board.

Charge mode, not trickle mode. If your charger has a current reading feature you will see that most of the vehicles now use 6-8 amps just on ignition without the engine running.

You need to adjust settings in the APIM and RCM to remedy the issues, but we need to see the asbuilts for those modules to help.

Hey F150Chief thank you for taking the time to reply……I tested the battery and found it to be bad…it was original to the car (2017). Went out and bought a new one so that problem should now be gone.

Ive tried everything I can think of and all the suggestions that I have gotten from from others and Im still stumped. If you think you know how to fix the 911 assist issue Im having then Im al ears just let me me know what it is I need to do.

We can fix it, just need the asbuilts…PM me your VIN.

Im looking but dont see anyway to PM you

Click on his screen name and that hit message in the box that comes up.

This is all that I see

We still need your APIM asbuilt posted here to help…I got the VIN thanks.

The original Sync 1 unit was replaced with a Sync 3 unit. What is the model number of the Sync 3 unit?

Sync 1 OEM Asbuilt:
“7D0-01-01” 10A5 9840 0268 (Value=9, ECall was enabled and worked.)
“7D0-01-02” 4060 007A
“7D0-02-01” 0455 5300 0086
“7D0-02-02” 00DB
“7D0-03-01” 0000 0000 00DB

The OEM ACM GJ5T-19C107-BE should work fine for this. Aabuilt is fine.
“727-01-01” 7800 2800 00D0
“727-01-02” 0A3B
“727-02-01” 0132
“727-03-01” 4173
“727-04-01” 0001 0255 53DE

The OEM RCM asbuilt:
“737-01-01” 3146 4D43 559C
“737-01-02” 3047 4432 4876
“737-01-03” 5546 3038 387D
“737-01-04” 3139 AD
“737-02-01” C76A CF33 1084
“737-02-02” 0C76 00C4
“737-03-01” 8170 33
“737-04-01” 1161 B5

The OEM asbuilt is correct, please return your values to OEM. What the tech did was to try to disable the ECP in your vehicle. Not cool.

The answer lies in the APIM asbuilt. Please post your present Sync 3 asbuilt.
