2017 Explorer Upgrade from 2.2.16280 failed

I am trying to upgrade to the latest version. From the XML file, I get a message it does not contain the expected output. It may be using overlays.
I have done a complete reset on the unit. Using the FORD process, I get the PKG_ERR03 error. I need this to install the map upgrade that i purchased.

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 2.2.16280

New SYNC Version: 3.4.23188

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
From the XML file that was generated by the Explorer, it indicated it got an unexpected result, may be due to an overlay. I have a standard Sync module, nothing further that i know of.

Update Method: CyanLabs Manual Method

Do you realize that you didn’t provide any relevant information other than “it does not work”?.
So, provide:

  • the output xml file from the interrogator log
  • a screenshot of the USB’s root (with file extensions visible)
  • a screenshot of the SyncMyRide folder’s contents (with file extensions visible)
  • the contents of all the .lst files on the USB’s root
  • a photo of the error that appears on the unit

You just wasted your money on a maps. Now that you went outside of Ford’s upgrade path to install 3.4 you made it so Ford offers you the old style Sync 3 maps based on your VIN. They won’t work because of the upgrade. The good news is you can get the new maps for free if you do a reformat and install with them.

Sorry, I have attached the XML file. Hope this helps.

Root directory on the USB

SyncMyRide directory

Here is the error message screen:

Sync_WW9F3GD3_1FM5K8F80HGE16785.xml (9.9 KB)

Well that’s not Sync 3.4 so I am not sure what you have done now. If you bought maps and your still on the Ford upgrade path for Sync than I would call that number and get help from them.

Sorry Bill, i am trying to upgrade Sync to version beyond my build version of 2.2.16280. I cannot get to the map upgrade unless that is updated. My issue is Sync upgrade, not map update.

But that’s just the interrogator log package, that does not install anything… Have you tried upgrading?, I’m confused…

I have not reviewed the log you sent, since I’m out at the moment…

Hello, I tried to upgrade from Sync 3 Version 2.2.16280 using the Ford process. I have included the screenshot of the error condition that i got. I tried using the WIFI upgrade as well as two separate USB Sticks, all with the same error condition.

Today i tried using the Cyanlabs application, using the manual process so I could get the XML file. The error condition was as I indicated in the first message, and have included the XML file in my subsequent message.

All i am trying to do at this point is upgrade from 2.2 to the latest version.

Thanks for any help.

When I asked for that information it was for the upgrade you are attempting. So send that information.

SaNdMaN,

I am attempting the Sync 3 upgrade from version 2.2.16280 to the most recent version. (Not the Map upgrade).

Here us the USB Root Directory:

Here us the SyncMyRide Directory:

Here are the contents of the autoinstall.lst file (the only lst file in the root):

; CyanLabs Syn3Updater 2.13.1.0 Stable - Autoinstall Mode - Interrogator Log Utility NA

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL_PRODUCT]
Item1 = TOOL - GB5T-14G386-AA_56065.tar.gz
Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AA_56065.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

I hope that helps…

Not at all, you sent the same information, you are making this harder than it should.

I’ve alredy told you that is an interrogator log package, that won’t install ANYTHING. Is that clear?.

What does that even mean?, the latest 3.0?, 3.4?.

So I’m going to ask for the last time, provide the following FOR THE UPGRADE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING, not the interrogator log, THE UPGRADE THAT FAILS WITH PKG_ERR03.

SaNdMaN,

Sorry, I do not understand.

I attempted the upgrade to Version 3.4 using the Cyanlabs manual process. I created the USB stick, inserted into the Explorer, and it indicated it was complete. I then took the stick back to the Cyanlabs utility and the utility indicated that the results did not contain the expected output, it may be using overlays. At that point I did not proceed any further. My understanding is that the Cyanlabs program identified something in the XML file that it did not expect and could not proceed.

The PKG_ERR03 came from the original attempt using the FORD process, not when following the Cyanlabs process. My hope was that you would be able to review the interrogator (XML) file and identify what was unexpected in that file.

I have no further files on the USB stick, other than was indicated. Should i attempt to run the program further on the Explorer to see if there is a log file generated?

I am away this weekend, I look forward to instructions on how i can proceed.

I

Did you ever figure this out?

I attempted the original FORD process again last week and this time it worked. It was the exact same process that i had attempted many times before. I used the same USB stick, downloaded the same software, but this time it succeeded.

No idea what the original problem was…
