2017 fusion se troubleshoot help

I’m not sure where to put the post. I was hoping for some help related to the FCIM in my fusion. Thanks.

What problem are you having and which flavor of FCIM do you have 4" or 8" screen?

4”. I didn’t realize the complexity of the system. Short version is I replaced the bezel with a used one from eBay. It powered down and wouldn’t wake up but I’m not sure if it’s a comm issue or possibly a wiring issue. Initially the air wouldn’t change from defrost only. I replaced the drivers side actuator and that fixed it or so I thought. 3 mos later I went to turn the heater on and it wouldn’t heat, only cool. When I changed the temp button back and forth, at the midpoint I would get 13V on what I think is the feedback wire from the actuator so I assumed the module was shorted. Anyway, I can’t get it to even power up now and I’m not positive where I should have voltage (which pins) and where I shouldn’t. I’ll get the log from FORscan shortly bc that may help

You need to look for DTCs with Forscan.

What part number is the replacement and what year was the donor vehicle?

Part -----> 17 - 20 Ford Fusion A/C Climate Audio Radio Control Panel HS7T-18E243-KD :gem_stone: OEM

briefly when i was starting to backprobe, it came on for ~10 sec. I started thinking loose connection but couldnt recreate it by moving the loom or the connectors.

  1. did you drop the Asbuilt for your VIN in the car?

  2. this looks more like you have issues in the BCM you need to fix first.

  3. Any chance this car was in a flood at some point?

If it were in a flood, it would’ve been before I got it and I’ve had it for about 3 yrs so I can’t say for sure. The only thing I felt comfortable doing with FORscan was I chose to load all as built data to the FCIM module and write it. My assumption was that the software would take care of the VIN for me as part of that. The fact it “glitched” on makes me wonder if it’s actually a short that I’m chasing and not programming, if that makes sense. I just assumed that it went into a sleep mode or shut down when it didn’t recognize the new module. I’m going to look into a little deeper this evening and will keep you updated. I really appreciate the help!

If you click the button in ForScan on the FCIM to load factory it would push the config into it that Ford has on file for your VIN.

Everything in this car is pretty much logic controlled, if there’s a problem in the BCM it will cause all kinds of issues.

On the connector picture, are the pin designations sequential and start from left to right top to bottom?

In other words, 1-13 on top from left to right and 14-26 on bottom from left to right?

Gray circles are open pins, this is the connector face.

I have 12v on pin 26. I have continuity between ground and pin 1. There are two separate connectors on this bezel. I assume this is the one that is for the hvac section? Is the other one only for the screen or will it play into this as well?

The other are the APIM controls, volume, telephone dial buttons, etc

With 12v between 26 and 1, that doesn’t necessarily mean thw module should light up its indicator lights, etc?

Uo256 is present at the time of request. Lost comms with FCIM module “A”. There are a couple more related to tire pressure, etc.

Ok. I figured out how to clear the DTCs related to the bdycm. I put the old bezel back in while doing this. I only have two DTCs present now in the bdycm and one is the tire pressure sensor (expected) the other is the loss of comms with the FCIM. I’d like to put the new/used bezel in now but not sure how to write the VIN or flash only that module and if that will even re establish the comms or how to tell if I’m dealing with a short.

I’ve an update. I can get backlighting briefly if I move the 2402A connector. Is this serviceable and worth trying to fix the female “holders” inside of it or does it make sense to replace the connector itself? Also, is it a known or common failure, this particular plug? Thanks for the feedback, you’ve been really helpful.

Those dont usually fail.

For what Ford wants for each pin wire I’d harvest the connector as a pigtail from a salvage yard.

Unplugged, I have the correct voltage(I think-2.1 and 2.9) on 17 and 18, line voltage on 26 and good ground on 1. I can’t get rid of the 0256 code for the bcm even after getting rid of everything else and writing the ab data to the bezel module. The bezel I got from eBay came with that connector but wouldn’t ya know, they cut the wires about 1” from the connector. Just my luck.
