2021 Ford F350 Partial Screen

You are correct, I cannot see a way to navigate at all on the screen. The only thing i can find is from Ford’s website telling me my vehicle is up to date, version 3.4.23188

Thank you all so much.

Oh thank you, I didn’t remember that. Thank you for pointing that out.

@shannon.g.hill.13 at this point, if the unit is not “operational” (that is, you can’t use it nor see the current build), we are entering the “guessing zone”…

Let me tell you that there are things on your unit that are not coherent with a NA vehicle… In fact, those packages are for China region… So yeah, “OEM” has left the building…

So, being inside the “guessing zone”, this is what I would try with Syn3updater:

  • Make sure MY20 protection is active, since your unit is MY20 and can’t be reformatted.
  • Create an upgrade USB with the following settings:
    – Current build 3.4.23188, region NA, NAV NO
    – Target build 3.4.23188, region NA, NAV NO.

That should give you these packages:

Note that install mode at the bottom left is “autoinstall”, you can only “autoinstall” stuff, never reformat/downgrade…

Those are the ones for NA units like yours, specially the APPS package which is for the 8 inch screen units. Also, Gracenotes for NA instead of China, the same for voices.

Also:

  • Disable auto updates if you can, clearly the unit is not stock and Ford thinks you have a different screen/region.
  • Can you check Ford’s web to see if based on your VIN you can get what version was pushed your way?. EDIT never mind about this last point, I’ve seen the previous update that you should be running 3.4.23188 according to Ford.

EDIT #2:
Before proceeding, can you measure your screen?, is it 8’'ish?.
I’m asking because images can be deceiving… Measure the diagonal line…

Thank you for the response, i appreciate it.

Ok I will try that. One thing I should say is the unit is somewhat functional, meaning, it connects to my phone, I can make and receive calls, listen to bluetooth audio, and radio works. But I cannot see or go to a settings button. I feel like I just received an update package for a 4" screen, not an 8 inch. So, it does somewhat work, just not as it was.

Do you still feel I should proceed as you have instructed?

Thanks,
Shannon

If the screen is physically about 8inches as the image suggests, yes.

Hi…if you are able to update correctly and get the full screen back don’t forget to do a sync master reset from the settings > general after checking that the correct update 3.4.23188 is on the ‘about’ screen.

Yes, thank you for telling me that.

I have created the USB exactly as instructed. I put the USB into the USB slot and then started my vehicle. The Ford logo came on for a bit, but the screen is now black, but lit, and nothing seems to be happening.

Post the USB log for the created USB.

I believe I’ve followed your instructions to the T in creating the USB. Can you kindly tell me how long this process will take to upgrade the unit. It has been in with motor running for 15 minutes, the screen has cycled (meaning Ford logo has come on and then disappeared to a “lit” but blank screen 3 different times). I can see the USB light flashing at times as well.

I’m not sure how long to keep this going?

Thanks,
Shannon

20-30 minutes tops…
Try not using emails as communication, they have some delay and you are missing parts of this conversation…

Provide the USB log for the created USB, you can find this in sy3updater’s log’s tab…

From what you are saying, there may be something wrong with the unit, in configuration or hardware…

log.txt (3.63 KB)

That looks good, thanks.
Remove the USB, recreate an interrogator log and plug it again onto the unit.
My thinking is that the unit is operative but with a black screen due to missconfiguration on it. If this is true, you will need to get an OBD adapter and Forscan to correct that.

2020+ unit I bet so don’t reformat it just in case.

Its working now. Once I removed the USB I did a soft reset and it came back
as it was before. I then did a master reset, disabled wifi and automatic
updates. I’m so happy it is back to the way it was.

Thank you, thank you! Is there any information I can get you that would
help someone else? I will be sending a donation.

Thanks!
Shannon

That’s good to know!, we are glad it’s recovered now.

That was a very smart idea!, I will take notes should this happen again in the future to another users.

So, keep in mind you should not use auto-update in the future from Ford. For some reason Ford pushed a 4 inch upgrade towards your unit, which is wrong. So it seems someone performed a 4 to 8 inch upgrade in the past… and for some reason, the other packages were for China, not NA…

But you can use Syn3updater should a new version be released in the future by Ford…
Only 8 inch is supported by Syn3updater, so you will be safe… Just keep in mind that you can’t reformat the unit since it’s MY20, always use autoinstalls…

The only thing I would do now is running an interrogator log and see in the XML file if all the NA packages were installed. Since you are seeing the full screen now points towards yes.

Anyways, glad it’s working now.
Enjoy it and take care.

One of 2 things, or maybe both happened here…
You will need to reload the original software version, or…
You will need to adjust the screen aspect ratio/size for 8" using FORScan.

It seems thru the thread you have loaded a 4" version on the APIM, NU5T-14G381-BD. (As indicated in the log above.) This has set the video driver to 4" display, despite the software setting indicated as 8".
(DE02: 0100000300) The correct version would be the -AD revision.

This is a MY20+ unit, so do not reformat. Also, it would not have had Sync 3.0 installed.

Resetting the unit after installing the correct -AD version fixed your issue, so no need to go further.
