3.0.20204 to 3.4.22110 Issues after 6 months

The APIM has started acting up 6 months after installing. I have not changed anything or updated since original install. It was working great no issues. I initially thought it was a little laggy/slow after initial install, but it didn’t bother me, and was function properly until recently.
It has been freezing/not starting up properly. Have had to hold the Power button and Forward skip to restart it.
The other day the rear camera stayed on after switching into drive.
The screen also stays on after turning off the car and opening door. A good 5-10 minutes it stays on.
The last couple of days every time I turn on the truck it ask me if I want to update sync automatically and send error reports. I select no or yes and it still asks me every time.
The clock sometimes isn’t right and takes a couple minutes to show the correct time.

I have never preformed a Master Reset. Although I did just try too but nothing happened after an 30 mins. It was just frozen so I reset it manually power button + forward skip. Probably need to be more patient with the master reset, but I felt it was just frozen and not working. After the reset my phones were still saved, so I know it didn’t reset.

I did try to update to 3.4.22251 yesterday thinking that might fix it, but I dont think it updated or did anything.

Side note: I have not upgraded the USB hub. I didn’t know what that error message was until yesterday. It didn’t really bother me I would just close it every time. Android Auto still worked even though I didn’t update the hub. I did order a new hub, excited for that message to not show up.

So you never did the last step of the tutorial.
Perform a master reset, it’s never too late.

Sounds like your emmc is dying, probably needs a new APIM. Unlikely to be related to this update.

Well that’s exciting .

I started also getting blind spot monitor error messages randomly. I thought it was just dirty tail lights from winter roads or something like that. (This is my first winter with it). Is that also linked to the APIM?

Also trailer brake module fault is that ran through the APIM. Have a new trailer brake on order but its on backorder.

Also I tried master reset again for an hour and a half, and it still didn’t work?

Any suggested retailers. I noticed a lot of used ones on eBay. My guess is if I bought used I would need to reprogram with forscan.

Where did you get this one and what is the model number? Or is this original to the vehicle? If this is a G-series APIM, it is dying. This is common symptoms with those units.

You want to look for a J-series unit to replace it. You could put in a K-series, but I would advise not. Your vehicle is CGEA 1.2, which is supported by the J-series APIM, but not so much with the K-series.

Whatever you do, don’t buy one from China saying it is ‘upgraded’. These are mostly remanufactured units, not original, and have a history of issues. You will need to buy a quality OBD adapter to use FORScan. See the articles in the Information section here.

I Selected Master Reset tonight and it didnt freeze up and it Reset. I did it twice to make sure LOL. I will update if my issues went away or if they continue.

I believe its a J-Series right? Is that good?

It might not have been sluggish. I didn’t really have a reference since I basically updated a couple weeks after purchasing. It did appear to be maybe a little quicker.

Hey @johnfick , this thread was autoclosed before, I’ve just opened it again.
How did it go?. Were your issues solved after the master reset?.

Yes it is working properly again. The master reset solved all my issues.
I don’t know why it took my 5 or 6 tries for the master reset to work and not freeze but it only took 2 -3 minutes to reset, so if anyone else runs into it freezing and not resetting don’t leave your car running for an hour and a half. Once you click Master reset you should hear an audible beep and a master reset screen will pop up.

Awesome!, glad it worked.

That’s why a master reset is the last step in the tutorial, it will clear up many bugs.
But to be honest, I would not think it would cause this type of behavior over time.
Maybe some data from the previous release was not being treated properly after the update, who knows.
