3.0 to 3.4 disabled functionality

I uograded my 3.0 Sync system to the latest 3.4 and it went smoothly. It’s a great change. However, I have an issue. After upgrading, my USB music is useless. I am unable to let my passenger browse it. I have a 128GB USB stick with tons of FLAC albums on it and no way of knowing wbat is or is not on the drive. How do I regain this functionality? I can still play with CD albums, tons of AM/FM presets, my XM presets, and everything else, so this must be a big. No message is given, bit when you press the browse button it goes to the currebtly playing album. Pressing the back arrow takes you to thw home screen.

The issues you specified are specific to you. No one else has reported these issues occurring. You do have an older APIM that has a Calibration that was not intended for 3.4 so many features SYNC is looking for now will not exist.

And before you ask, no you cannot go to the latest calibrations available as your APIM is too old.

Make sure you have done a master reset on you APIM also. Presets are not stored on the APIM so these will not be affected by a SYNC update. They are stored on the ACM.

If you have that much music on a USB device it may take a while to re-index. Try forcing a re-index and leave it alone for a while.

Is your passenger trying to browse the music while the car is in motion?
If this is the case it has nothing to do with going from 3.0 to 3.4, its just like not being able to manually enter a destination with the NAV.

Passenger over ride with 3.4 requires a ForScan change as well as a 2020MY+ APIM with the correct firmware.

Bill, I believe you misunderstood me. Everything seems to work flawlessly EXCEPT no longer being able to browse the USB stick while moving. The only other thing I noticed and assumed was just a glitch was that I normally get traffic data on my nav. One time and only once, I did not get said data. I still believe that is a glitch with maybe cellular or satellite data that one day as it worked before and after that. It’s working right now.

Rollback Jockey, it indexed as I got the “Indeximg complete” notification. It IS a lot (128GB is 3/4 full) though and I idled while it indexed.

I believe Warlock hit the nail on the head. I tried browsing this morning and while stationary it works, but when moving it does not. This makes perfect sense since I can literally do ANYTHING else while driving, but touching that USB would cauae me to drive off a cliff and land directly on an orphanage every time. Tuning XM one channel at a time until I find the one I want is clearly safer, for example.

With that said, I tried modifying the NAV in motion with FORScan and now 911 assist is dead and I have either hazmat cargo signs for speed or European signs for speed. Reverting from 5753 to 5553 enables 911 assist and I have American speed signs again, but now browsing USB while moving fails again. Is there an address I can modify to only enable browsong of USB? I don’t even need NAV as my ELD has one designed for commercial trucks and it is free and constantly updated.

The passenger over ride in 3.4.21265+ is in 7D0-09-01 and requires a -Ex calibration on the APIM.
If you use the old method of changing the country code it will disable 911 and change signs etc to whatever country it was changed to, this was documented way back.
Traffic on the factory NAV is reliant on the Sirius subscription, check for subscribed services under that, typically a 5 yr for traffic came free and it started from the date that the Sirius service was first enabled on the ACM ESN.
Sirius also just finished doing a freebie weekend over Memorial Day (they do this sometimes on high travel holidays) which would have given you traffic info without having it active on your subscription.

Okay, every thread I found online mentioned 7d0-02-01 IIRC. I understand it now. Thank you. Can you point me to the documentation you speak of so I may read it before messing with the address you mentioned? Also, what do you mean “ex-calibrated”?

The free weekend is likely what got me traffic. I do not pay for XM at this time since I have so much music of my own, ripped to FLAC from either vinyl or CD. This is why I want it to work. I do occasionally stream a local radio station using iHeart, but that is not often.

Changing the 7D0-09-01 location in the APIM will not work in a 2017. You also don’t have that bit in an H or J series APIM as that calibration did not include 7D0-09-01. If it worked before it is only because you changed the country code to make that happen. What Warlock said just repeats what I already told you.

Post 4 it’s in a Google docs sheet for ForScan if you want to hunt it down.

Long story short, when you change the country code Sync disables 911 as that is not the correct emergency dial for the country you changed it to and the calibration/firmware is NA. If the calibration/firmware is changed to match the country code it will show the emergency dial for THAT country, not the US/NA.

Okay, but it looks like I am stuck. According to Bill, my APIM doesn’t support the addresses required for this one feature. I get that, newer ones jave more storage or RAM and thus more addressable space to store data.

With that said, what is the newest Sync that WILL work with my APIM and is it safe to downgrade to that version? I did a master reset after flashing the last time and can do that again.

Actually the new ones to MY2020 have the same storage, it actually comes down to what firmware/calibration the hardware supports.

I don’t think you’re going to get this back, once you go from 3.0.x to 3.4.x you can’t revert due to the reformat of the APIM.

So can I pull the eMMC, pop it into my Gentoo Linux system, and do a blkdiscard? Format is nothing. That’s above the partition layer. Assuming I can dump the partitions I could load anything onto it, even Windows if drivers existed, God forbid!

So if the format is the only issue can I get into it and dump the partition table and then move forward with another version?

Have no idea on this one.
I’ve never tried to put one back on 3.0.x after a reformat for 3.4.
NaviUpgrade might have an answer for you on this.

I did not mean to go all the way back to 3.0. If my APIM will work wirh 3.1 or 3.2 or 3.3 I would be happy to use one of those. I love 3.4, and the only issue I see is the USB browsing. You guys have done a wonderful job on this, I just want to be as updated as possible.

The updater could build you a downgrade without reformat back to 3.3.19052.
I’m just not sure what build would give you that functionality back.

Fair enough. I certainly don’t want to brick the device. I suppose if push came to shove, I could buy a recent unit (head unit, assuming it has an APIM and all) and have no issues with 3.4, but I’d like to see what I can do for the time being.

Thanks again for the information. I may roll back to 3.3 when I get to a place that I have a good Internet connection.
