Trying to install a 4" SYNC 3 screen in place of an 8" SYNC 3 screen. If I swap the 4" without any software changes the display and everything works but it tries to display an 8" display on a 4" screen so I only see the top left quarter of the display. When I install SYNC 3 4" display software the install completes but then the screen just stays black. If I force restart (vol+seek) the Ford logo appears and then stays black. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
SYNC Region: NA
Navigation Variant: Non Nav
Manufacturer Year: Unknown
Install Type: Retrofit
Old SYNC Version: 3.4.22251
New SYNC Version: 3.4.22251
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Screen is black
I will ASAP, emergency service call it’ll be about 12 hours.
Curious if this may help. I have access to the newer vehicle that the 4" screen is coming out of. Would it be beneficial to post that information side by side this one? Thanks again.
Yes, you can do that as well. But what’s odd about your situation is that screens are basically interchangeable as far as I know, and the only reconfiguration needed is when installing a 10 or 12 inches one…
I have tried both configurations and neither get the display working. I have sound and volume adjust but no other functions.
Tried pulling info from the vehicle the screen came out of but it’s a 2025 and it says the information isn’t loaded in forscan yet. Is it possible it’s a software issue with the 22251 4” version? Should I try an older version of Sync?
Have you tried creating a new profile for that vehicle?.
I do not think that’s the case, other screen swaps that I remember of did not require any particular version. You can try with NU5T-14G381-BA, which is a previous version from -BB.
I do not have a list of older builds, but I can “infer” them from the size…
sort the results by build in decreasing order. 3.4s that are about 800-900MB are for 8 inches, the ones about 400-450MB should be for 4 inches. (that’s my reasoning at least)
But I feel there’s something else at play here, since you should not need to modify anything (unless you had a custom boot/theme, which is not the case). So I would no try to install older builds, you should be able to run the latest without issues.
You have 2 screens to test with, right?, one 4 inch and the other one 8 inches…
If so, have you tried connecting the 8 inch one while the 4 inch package is installed?
I have connected the 8” with the 4” software installed and I have the same outcome. Black with radio playing and volume control.
Pardon my ignorance as this is my first time doing this. How many files should be in the SyncMyRide folder when doing the manual install? When I made the auto update for 8” through the program it inserted 4 .tar files but the 4” download only has one. Am I missing a step and needing 3 other files for the 4” install?
Thanks, that confirms that this has nothing to do with the screen.
The way normal Sync3 updates work is it will pick whatever file is in the SyncMyRide folder that’s referenced by the autoinstall.lst file that’s located on the USB’s root.
And since you are only changing Sync3 version, only the APPS package is required.
Thanks. Since it’s MY20, keep MY20 protection active if you ever use Syn3updater to avoid a reformat/downgrade on it, since it will brick it.
Going back to your current issue, how bad do you want this?. Because there’s something else I would try: swapping everything, screen + APIM… But it would not be as simple as plug and play…
So maybe wait a few days to see if anyone else has anything to say about this particular issue…
